When disaster stikes look out greed sets in

[ Edited ]

Just when a disaster hits like Hurricane Florence did, and now Hurricane Michael  is next so very soon gas prices, hotel prices water and food prices have already escalated by a lot  and not by a few cents.

Instead of helping their fellow human beings in time of disasters  human greed gets the best of people and companies.

As if life was not tough enough when disasters strike.

Shame on them for not caring at all, and by raising prices sky high!!!

The worst comes out in the Corporate world.

I still see the very best in people trying to help each other unconditionally.

Report them.  That’s what my governor said to do.

Pam Bondi, Florida's state attorney general, will go after the price gougers and prosecute them! It is unconscionable to take advantage of people when they are in such a desperate situation.

I agree its a rotten thing to do, but that being said the governor saying  he'll prosecute is ridiculous. You can tell its an election year!

Attorney General Pam Bondi has activated the price gouging hotline.

Anyone who suspects price gouging can report it to the Florida Attorney General's Office by calling the hotline or going to the Attorney Generals website.

For complaints to be investigated, complainants need to include enough information to support claims.

How to report a price gouging claim:

  • Provide contact information so the office can follow up as necessary.
  • Keep receipts and other documentation like pre-storm receipts or ads for the same item in the same location.
  • Take photos or video of any signage or screenshots of website postings.
  • Make sure to accurately report information regarding the name of the business and its location.

An ex neighbor who just completed building a custom, luxury home amd whose income per household is in excess of $150,000.00 annum went to free supplies event and bragged at all the 'swag' they took.

They didnt need it but many others who lost everything (ex-neighbor lost nothing, even w/2 homes) deserved access to those supplies.

They even bragged about 'scoring'.

Reprehensible behavior, imo.

I can only wish a karmic reality check on them.

Price gouging is against the law and should be reported.

Re: When disaster stikes look out greed sets in

I grew up at the beach, within sight of the Atlantic Ocean. Looking back, I think my parents never thought about hurricanes and nor’easters. They were foolishly ignorant. I remember floods, backed up sewage systems, and walking home from school with water up to my knees.

I am frankly shocked and annoyed by those who build homes right on the beach. That is just plain loony. The rest of us should not have to deal with increases in insurance rates to pay for rebuilding at-risk properties. I recall home owners in a town next to the one where I grew up. They insisted that their Sandy-destroyed homes be constructed exactly where they were before the storm hit. How absurd is that? People need to get real about where it is safe to live.

Take a photo on your phone and send it to Bondi's office or hotline that is setup for this; she will and has prosecuted these vendors who price gouge and take advantage of people in their hour of need. She's tough!
