,,,do you get rid of things you just do not like or do you also let go of things you have not worn for maybe a year or so, even tho the items are nice?
Old topic, I know, but struggling to let go of several clothing items that are in great shape, still on trend but have not been worn for a year.

If they're still nice and in good shape and I still like them, I would hang on to them.
Is there a chance you are going to wear them again? Have you forgotten about them or just not had a chance to wear them?
Sometimes I hang on to things I might wear for a while and then think about it. After a while, I decide to keep them or get rid of them.

I don't hang on to clothes I haven't/don't wear. I feel better when I have less things.
I recommend: Decluttering at the Speed of Life by Dana K. White.

I ask myself: Can I buy a similar item today that is made as well?
Keep quality.

@Mom2Dogs NO I do not get rid of clothes because they are a year old and I haven't worn them. I don't buy clothes I would not wear and I buy good clothes to last for years.
Clothes for ME don't need to be on trend. They need to be clothes of good quality and clothes I will wear. It wouldn't occur to me to throw away good clothing I paid good money for just because they are a year old. Terrible purchase if you are buying clothes that are not wearable in one year.

This is my problem too. I am cleaning out closets and had a pile of favorite things that I loved but had not worn for 5+ years. Austin Reed, City Girl, Jones of NY. . . but they were so out of style. My friend that owns a consignment shop said to just get rid of them so I did just that. I took them to an event at the YWCA for girls/women entering or re-entering the workforce. The more tailored clothing went immediately, some of what I thought was beautiful . . . oh well, I did love them! LOL! So just my opinion and what I did was clear them out and move on. My life and the styles have all changed, a 3-piece suit has no real place in the motorhome!

@Mom2Dogs This is my struggle as well. I am getting ready to do another major clothing dump and it is hard for me. I have some Issac cardigan sweaters that I hardly ever wore. I live in Florida and don't really have a need for them. Plus they are "lay flat to dry," which takes FOREVER for them to dry, so I don't want to wear them. There are some tops that I don't like, but if I bought multiple colors, I either have to keep them all or donate them all, I can't just donate one or two of the colors - that is dumb and just me being me. Also if something is just a little bit too small, I want to keep it because, you know, I am going to lose that last 10 lbs. There are clothes that I wore to my boys HS and college graduations, so I don't want to donate those. These are my internal struggles with donations, and I know in the end it all means nothing. But I will be forging ahead to get rid of some things. What I really need to do is to stop buying. Good luck with your purge!
