A friend of mine just bought a new house and she invited me over for some casual wine and such. I wanted to take a little something as a congrats and celebratory gift. I dont like going empty handed. What would be a nice gift ? Chocolates? I moved away shortly after we met but we stayed in touch and since now Im back Id like to establish a friendship.

If you have a place that does gift baskets with cheeses, crackers, chocolates, etc.,  and perhaps a bottle of wine this would be super and I'm sure she would really appreciate it! If not, you could put together one of your own with similar assorted things!  Sounds like fun -- getting re-acquainted!

That sounds so nice.

I was thinking of what I would like, or bring, and I think if someone brought me a nice flameless candle

I'd be able to keep enjoying that and think of you when I see it.

And maybe some extra batteries.

However, if you really want to go all out, get her the candle, a rechargeable battery thing and some rechargeable batteries. I love mine and haven't bought batteries since I got it.

A pretty coffee table book, say something that features artwork of beautiful gardens and homes, or an ode to friendship - and you inscribe the front page with well-wishes and the date of your get-together.

A gift card to the local home store. You always need something. Put in a gift bag with a couple of kitchen towels.

A friend did this for me when I moved into my condo. Of course she's an antique shopper and had found this beautiful ceramic cornucopia, ivory glazed with gold leaf edging. She had a local florist make a beautiful floral arrangement in it. That arrangement lasted a few weeks in the center of my dining table. And I've used the beautiful vase for years since.

I still have it and put it out seasonally...sometimes with faux grapes and leaves for fall/Thanksgiving, sometimes with potpourri & ornaments for Christmas, sometimes just by itself.

You don't have to go searching out an antique, like my friend happened to find, but perhaps the florists themselves have unusual "keeper" type containers (ie. not the usual clear glass ones)...I know ours do.

How fun to reestablish the friendship~good luck with the gift!

Oooooh that's a great idea too....Always needed when you first move in. Maybe add a wine or specialty jar of a local treat of some kind. Not needed though, especially depending on the gift card amount.

Candles, small floral arrangement, basket with soaps-small candle-potpourri etc.

Take time every day to enjoy where you are without a need to fix it
