Re: What's with all the "HUGGING"?

@RinaRina

Can't answer why since only the ones that do the hugging know their why. Our family was never a "hugger" even though my mother came over from Italy. Most I see of that that era of time from that country were different than us.

As for the shirt! I am not one that gives a rat's behind what micro things might "offend" someone on the globe. If a shirt or other legal apparel offend a person that obviously doesn't really understand that word? Me give a ****? I think not.

As I have always said on these forums "speak up" and what will be will be.

I don't think there is going to be a way to stop all hugs.  Many just occur too fast.  Like bad weather it is something we have to deal with.

The step back or hands up will usually deter people.  Or saying "stop" or "no" will do the trick.  But one should quickly say afterwards, "I'm not a hugger."   I know, why do we have to excuse our action, but do you really want to offend someone who is just thinking they are being nice/friendly.

Thankfully, I never worked in a setting where people hugged.

I think all of these huggers are taking a page from the QVC  hosts.  All the hugs and air kisses are ridiculous.

Re: What's with all the "HUGGING"?

We are a family that hugs and so does my social circle, but we have a connection that makes this natural, not creepy.

I’m surprised this much aggressive hugging happens in the workplace given the emphasis on harassment policies and appropriate behavior. My company has annual training on allowable behavior, and unwanted hugging is not allowed. I wouldn’t want this type of personal interaction either.

Just gross and phony.  Sometimes I am glad I retired.

The hugging could be considered se$xual harrassment in some situations.  Hugging was frowned upon where I worked and was discussed openly.  Do you have training on harrassment?  Talk to HR.

Re: What's with all the "HUGGING"?

I’ve always made it a point to mention in conversations that I am not a hugger.  It’s never been too hard to work in.  Then when someone starts to hug you, you can remind them that “i’m Not a hugger, remember?”  After a while, people just accept it and tease you about it.

And save me from the old aunts that want to kiss you...on the mouth!  After I got older, I started letting family know that i’m Not a hugger or kisser!

Now everyone one just laughs at my quirks, but people don’t push themselves on me!

I'm in the minority.  I don't mind hugging.

At least they aren't kissing!  I got to the point where I'd tell friends of hubby's that I was sick, had a cold sore, etc. and not to kiss me.  They finally got the drift.
