Re: What makes some of us autumn-lovers?

I like summer.  While it can get hot & humid we do get a lot of breaks throughout the season.  Today for instance it was in the low 70s.  The AC has been off for several days. and the weather has been gorgeous the last few days...but I know it will get hot again before it stays cool.

I like autumn's crisp cool air, all of the fabulous fall foliage, fall food & the holidays.  I like winter for about a week or so but when it's dark, gray  and cold most of the time all I feel like doing is taking a nap and eating bad foods...I really don't like feeling depressed and it's hard to shake off.

Re: What makes some of us autumn-lovers?

As a child I always prefered the beautiful emerald green of the forests and the wonderful smell of fresh air and flowers in the spring and summer.

Fall to me, is mostly wet coldness, dead leaves, and a lot of orange from the time I was very small.  I think something probably happened, at that time in addition to being cold, although, the house was always heated.  I'm also very cold natured.  My mood drops, and I eat more chocolate. My main fall highlight is turkey dinner.

I do love the blue sky and crisp white ice in winter.

@ECBG , I think for me I’ve become more attuned to the seasons of life, so to speak.  While our weather is an obvious beacon/lighthouse/neon sign to looking forward to cooler weather, I also find myself looking more at the changes in the desert landscape that signal, however subtlely, something different to come.  Just makes me reflect on the cycling of life.

@MJDinVegas I can see what you mean.  I, on the other hand, am so extremely visual, I just see the brown parts, although, I live in "the land of the sky".

[ Edited ]

@ECBG , I should have also asked, if you don’t mind, where you are located.  We move to the Vegas area 2 years ago, after 5years in Hawaii (Big Island), 2 years in Kansas City, 4 years in Front Royal, Va (nobody knows where that is, LOL), and many years in Huntington Beach, Ca.

I only ask because even before that diatribe I’ve lived in very brown places.  Lol!

ETA:  very many typos in my first edit.  If you don’t want to identify your location, no harm, no foul.

Re: What makes some of us autumn-lovers?

I am with you house cat.. I have, my entire life, LOVED autumn and winter.  Spring and summer were 2 seasons to just get through.  So funny!  I also love rainy days.  Sun is not my thing.  I could never live in California.  I was recently in San Diego..wow, what a beautiful place, but only nice to visit for me.  If I lived on the West Coast it would have to be Seattle.  Love that city.  I grew up in NE Pennsylvania, lived in Boston and now in NYC suburb.  I doubt I will ever leave...but then again, who knows where life will take you?  Enjoy our favorite seasons...they are coming next!

Re: What makes some of us autumn-lovers?

Until I joined these boards, many many years ago, I never heard of anyone not loving Summer. Everyone I know loves Summer. We live for it. But I honestly think its a regional thing. I live in Michigan. We only have about 4 months of warm weather a year. We cherish every single bit of it. Our winters are long and cold. I despise Fall only because of all the work we have to do to get ready for our Winters. Don't all you "Fall lovers" do work to prepare for Winter? It sounds like you all just enjoy it. Nope, not us. Our crisp Fall weather always lasts about 3 days, then the snowy, cold, harsh reality of the next 9 months settles in.

@ID2

I'm so interested by your post. I live in southeast PA & we anxiously await the "pumpkin spice" season of autumn. What all do you do to get ready for winter? Do you get all that lake effect snow? I'm curious.
