What makes some of us autumn-lovers?

I was in a craft store today and half of it was already dedicated to autumn decor.  I had so much fun looking at everything. I think I exercised a great deal of restraint and only walked out with a pillow for my porch chair.

Labor Day weekend is my traditional day for switching from summer to autumn, which is silly really, because it won't be autumn here for several months.  It's my favorite time of year, though, and I want to savor it, even if only in my mind.  I was reluctant to leave the store and realized that I truly live for the fall and winter... simply tolerating the rest of the year's weather.

I think I like autumn because I'm an introvert and it means more time at home.... but of course the crisp weather and gorgeous colors play a big part.  When we retire I want to move somewhere that has a honest-to-goodness autumn the way I remember them in the northeast.

Anyone else here feel as I do?

What is it about us that makes us love that time of year so much?

I love the ****** in the air, the clothes, the colors, football, and knowing the holidays are coming. I mean what is not to like ? 🍎🍁🍂🍁🍎

Ain't that the truth.  We have the same weather just about every day of the year - sunny, sunny and more sunny with a small handful of rainy ones (my personal fave) thrown in.  The only time there's any chance of cool weather or cozy weather is in the winter.  Thankfully the nights are always a lot cooler, but I'm so sick of sunshine. I'm the only person I know who's happy to have rain when I travel. We go to NY every summer to visit my in-laws.  This summer we were there two weeks and it rained almost every day. We loved it.

You are not alone. I get sick of day after day of sun and heat. I love the cool, rainy, cloudy days. One time we were in Vancouver, Canada and it rained for most of the trip and the owners of the B&B kept apologizing for the weather. We loved it.

Re: What makes some of us autumn-lovers?

Not the outdoorsy type, for a long time I preferred winter, trees blanketed with snow, sitting by the fireplace, and physically feeling better in cold weather.

Now, I prefer both Fall and Winter equally.  Fall and it's trees changing colors, walking through the leaves with the dogs, cooler temps, and again, fireplaces and feeling better.  I also prefer the holidays in November and December.  Fall and Winter clothing.  Hots soups on cool days and nights.

While I should like Spring and Summer, everything green, new growth, flowers, I hate the hot, humid weather, the bugs that constantly bite, and physically feeling lousy when I'm outside.

But without Spring and Summer, there is no Fall and Winter, so I must live through those months...very reluctantly, though.

Re: What makes some of us autumn-lovers?

When I was young I lived for summer.  I would spend the two months at our summer house near a lake in the mountains.  However, I do not remember having the heat and humidity we have been experiencing for awhile.  We didn't even need air conditioning because it was blanket weather at night .

I am older now and can't stand the heat like we have had this summer.  My energy level, mental well being suffered and limited what I could do out doors.  I had the air conditioning on daily which while I was glad to have, prefer fresh air.

In a nutshell, when Autumn arrives I am always motivated to do what I couldn't in the summer months.  I am out and about, energized and love harvest time,  I just feel better.

This is me and why I love fall !
