What do you consider Old Lady clothes?

Hello - I read a lot of posts about QVC's clothes looking like old lady clothes. That got me to thinking what do people consider old lady clothes to look like. I think of old lady clothes  as frumpy, ill made and ill fitting garments, that do not flatter the wearer. I think the same garment can look bad on a mature lady or a young lady if it doesn't fit correctly or flatter. Just as most any style can look great on a lady of any age if it is well fitting and well made. What do you think?

Re: What do you consider Old Lady clothes?

Shift dresses seem "old lady" to me.  That is the only thing I can say for certain that I think looks "old lady" on anyone who wears them.  I have some from my Mom that I need to donate.  I was keeping some thinking that I would use the material to make doll clothes for my grand daughter.  She is not big into dolls and I can't see me doing that anyway.  PLUS, I hate to ruin a piece of clothing that someone else can wear after I donate it.

Let's see... "moo moos" (caftan-like dresses)

nightgowns, housedress

fur coats

dark brown lip pencil & lipstick

panty hose

round toe "pump" style shoes

Obviously these are just generalizations, but it's what comes to my mind.

@dollgal

I agree with you.

I don't think it's the clothes themselves, but a combination of the way they are worn (how they fit) and the attitude/look of the person wearing them.

I couldn't give a general description but I know it when I see it.

Anything made by Alfred Dunner

Baggy dresses with no shape, pearl necklaces (I hate pearls), shoes with orthopedic soles, loud prints made to hide the body, I'm sure there are more. Just anything frumpy and dumpy. Anything that looks like you just threw it on and don't care how you look.

@I am still oxox

Sorrry - I can't agree with that sweeping statement.  It doesn't apply to everyone.

One of my friends wear's Dunner - and she looks rather chic.

As I said in an early reply .... combination of clothes and wearer ..... fit and attitude.
