Like all the kids I grew up with in Public Housing, that was any day that didnt involve going to school, and having to deal with our lovely nuns.

Saturday (and Sunday) because Daddy was home

My fave was Friday! We would go shopping up the Island where the stores were open late, stop by a Deli where we got the best cold cuts and hot dogs and good Rye bread, come home and have a late meal of corned beef sandwiches, chips and root beer and watch "Uncle Milty" Milton Berle ('66-'67) we were little kids, he was so funny!
Then have all day Saturday! Cartoons and Pancakes for breakfast! then Bandstand!

Sunday. Football was on. It's still my favorite day because football is on. Like it in the off season because that's the only day I can sleep in.

Looking back I remember different days of the week being my favorite.
Going to church on Sunday with Mamaw, big family dinners with her and Papaw at their house after, watching Wild Kingdom and Walt Disney with my family before bedtime.
Wednesdays, because Dad only worked a half day, and we had more time to spend with him.
During the school year, Fridays were always great because it was the last day of the week and teachers were also tired, so our class work was lighter, we often worked in groups, and could talk quietly among ourselves.
My brothers and I loved watching cartoons on Saturday morning. After Dad left for work, we had about an hour before Papaw came to get us to spend the day at his house. For us kids it was a fun day with Mamaw and Papaw; we got to see my aunt, play with my cousin, and walk to the store for pop and candy. For Mom and my aunt, it was a work day. They cleaned house, prepared several of the dishes we would eat for Sunday dinner, and washed Mamaw's hair! She had waist length hair that took forever to wash, condition, and dry before it was braided and wrapped on her head for another week. After the combing process, there was always a nice little wad of hair that Mamaw insisted had to be buried, and the 4 of us grandkids always wanted to be the ones to do that!
Papaw usually brought us home around 3:00, but during the summer, Dad would often come in from work and take us to the New River in Virginia to fish. Sometimes we spent the night there, sleeping under the camper top in the back of the truck, sometimes we only stayed until 1 or 2 a.m. Icy/snowy winter days or when we were sick, were the only times we got to stay home all day on Saturdays.

Tuesdays.
I'm not sure why but I've always loved Tuesdays. I was an anxious child and it seemed that Tuesdays were the least prone to drama. I have always disliked weekends... still do.

Saturday and Sunday. Not because of school, I liked school. But dad was off weekends and Saturday was shopping day and we ate lunch out some Saturdays. More time with dad.
Sunday’s, most fall and winter Sundays, we went to the movies, almost every week. Maybe .50 for the movie, and .10 or .15 for the penny candy store. My sister and I went alone or with neighborhood friends. Also, we loved The wonderful World of Disney Sunday nights. I’m sure we were 7-10 years old. Not today! What a different life in the 60’s.
We have great childhood memories.

@qualitygal I loved Sundays. Before Sunday School, Dad took us to International Pancake House...guess you know I filled up well there.

Didn't live in public housing..I can relate to the nun though!
There was 1 in high school..her parents lived next door to us..I was even stuck seeing her on weekends.
I used to get in trouble with her always..her name was Sister..whatever..whatever..
I knew her by her given name(totally different) and called her buy it in school a few times..She was furious!!
She called my Mom and said I disrespected her!..Her sweet Mom and Dad just laughed when I told them.
