I'm in my 68th yr & healthy. I retired at 50 & never looked back.
Since retirement I pretty much do the same except now I do not have "time" contraints. I love to travel abroad, cruising, gambling, getting up late, staying in my pjs if I so well please, stay up late, etc.
I've always enjoyed eating out or ordering in. Still do so. That has not changed.
I only take 2+ week type cruises. When I travel abroad, I usually stay no less than 30 days. The kennel is my cat's second home/vacation home.
My retirement motto: "Each day is a good day above ground."
"Never argue with a fool. Onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."

My life has become rather lonely.
@Kachina624 I am so glad you post here. I love your honesty and how you speak your mind. You are refreshing🙂🙃

I worked for 7 years after I got married. Then when I had my first baby (after saving and planning) I quit work. But my boss (a Colonel) kept calling me to please come back.
So I did (my late husband was always like...whatever makes you happy), but he knew me better than I did.
That working lasted 2 months. One day coming home I thought how stupid I was. We didn't need the money, we'd planned for this. I walked in the door and said, "I quit".
I never looked back and never went back to work. That was 45 years ago. Never bored, loved being a mom and homemaker. Did all the painting, etc. Always busy.
Life is what you make it. I have a dear friend who retired early from the government. She stays busy too. She's also a widow. We have lunch together about 4 times a week.
This is what I'd hope for everyone. To be able to do whatever they choose and makes THEM happy. I see so many women working so hard.
They work all day, then pick up the kid from daycare, make sure everyone is fed, put the kids to bed. Then the next day it's the same thing.
Women are the unsung hero's of this country. I'm glad they are speaking up. Perhaps that's why I got so any when I heard a political person say that women vote the way their husband's tell them to.
I think it's more the other way around. We have a saying in our family...."Happy wife, happy life". Women keep things copacetic (as much as possible).

I decided to retire on a Friday night and went to work on Monday and resigned. I didn’t really plan on it, I just had enough. I was in my late 50’s at the time.
i don’t need to spend money on clothing, lunches and gas...so my spending has been cut down.
i didn’t color my hair before I retired and still don’t. I get my hair cut every 5 weeks. We never eat out unless we are on vacation or it’s a special occasion or date with friends....no difference from when I worked.
i love Sunday’s now. I used to feel depressed on Sunday nights because I knew I had to go to work on Monday mornings.
i can go to bed and wake up on my own schedule.
i can pack up and go anywhere I want to and not have to worry about getting permission to take off from work.
i can dress casual, or even hang out in my pj’s if I want to.
I have time for gardening and cooking...no more rushing to get things done on weekends.
i can go out shopping just to browse, or go walking at the park or do anything I want to do.
i can clean or not on any schedule I want.
My dogs love it when I spend all day with them.
I don’t feel guilty just sitting down with a good book. I have all the time in the world to do things...no rush.
i volunteer at a local school some days...a love hate thing. I can’t stand the principal, but love most of the kids and I feel I am making a difference.
i love being retired.

DH still works full time and he went thru a health crisis last year so the fact that I was around was good.
My work life was different I worked at home for 16 years.
We still go out to eat.
I still shop
and finally I still get my hair touched up, no way I would ever stop that

@SeaMaiden. Thank you. Sometimes I'm a little blunt but I never want to hurt feelings or be unkind.

@Kachina624: I love your point of view and would like to get together with you in Rio Rancho if you can figure out a way with the restrictions on this board. I am 74 so we are in the same decade.

You're asking good questions. I retired from education career at age 58, and now enjoy my part-time job so much. Do you feel as if you need a stepping stone? After you retire, would part-time work keep you busy and give you some money to stash away, like a travel account to visit your grown child? Someday I'll be ready to retire full time, but not yet. I'll know when. I wish you peace while making your making your plans.

@tarsmomypu can do all of the things you enjoyed your weekends for as now your life is a never ending weekend. We just don’t rush in our house now that we are both retired. It is really fun to just do nothing some days because that’s how you feel like tackling the day.

This may sound silly/stupid/dumb but I retired with my best friend DH. We saved money, maxed our 401k, and paid off debt. Built our savings account too. It takes hard work, determination, and planning but we were desperate to retire, shut off the alarm, and enjoy life. You need separate interests too. It’s been over two years now and neither of us regret our decision. we’ve been blessed.
