I feel your pain!!!  When it rains it pours!!!! 😱 I had the garage system fail in February - when the door collapsed because of the "springs" I had to get new garage door & opener system.

Then I  planned (financially) for my window replacements & plantation shutters, blinds installed few weeks ago (on top of new roof, storm doors & a/c unit) I figured nothing else could go wrong unexpectedly BUT in the last 2 weeks or so:

  • My microwave went 4 years old - replaced $300
  • A leak - the person who installed my water softener used wrong type of pipes & couplers - major leak. Plumber cost $523 to repair.
  • The screen on my lanai was damaged in rainstorm - not covered by insurance - $550 later new lanai screening
  • My kitchen lighting started "blinking" old track lighting - electrical short - new lighting & electric lines replaced in kitchen installed w/licensed contractor - $800
  • Final straw: water heater leaking - plumber coming out tomorrow - ugh!!!!

After these past few weeks, I think I've had everything replaced or updated...keeping my fingers crossed nothing else goes wrong at least for 6 months!!!! Then again, I still have checks in my checkbook so I must have some $$$$ left! This is the drawback of buying a used home (20 years old).

BUT my treat is a casino trip tomorrow!! I totally enjoy a nice day out, lunch, free play & just relax!  I think you should do the same 🎰🎰🎰- and enjoy your special day! Happy Birthday!!!🎂🎂🌹🌹

I hope you're a big winner!!!

Sometimes it does feel as if a black cloud is following you around doesn't it?  When it happens to me I go outside and look up to see if I can see it!

Best wishes that you and @homedecor1 have had your bad luck for a while!

The financial guy on the radio advises everyone have $1000 emergency fund.  If an appliance goes, you can burn through that money in no time.

@AuntG

I think that financial advisor better "update" his calculations! Before any licensed tradesperson steps foot in house it's $125/hr+ so a minor repair could break the bank!

(My spouse drives me crazy he is like a investigator he is always checking/looking around for anything wrong with this house! guess old habits hard to die worked undercover detective 30 years!)

case in point, our faucet was leaking in the master (drip drip drip🙄) called plumber we ordered new Delta faucets. No big deal when he went to install found out water line in bathroom was "leaking a slow drip" under cabinet which lead to new waterlines in bathroom & cabinets since it was particle board ****** and leak was underneath caused "mold" & cabinet bottom crumbling since it was soaked!!!!

Fortunately, we put a large amount aside for things we knew would need to be done (slowly dwindling but we always pay cash no credit cards) in a older home. We are savers and for once, I have to say that's a good thing right now + at our age we pretty much have everything we need ....

Plus, what else is left to replace all the big things have been done. Next thing, paint entire house & new floors - next years goal!

Thanks for all the upbeat comments! I figure the only place to go is up. The good part of all of the a/c problem is, it has been very cool here so actually had to turn my furnace on for a couple of days.

Thanks for the birthday wishes!

Most licenses expire on one's birthday. Since you are so caught up in yours, how did you miss it on your driver's license?

@zitawins

I read the year wrong. Thought it said 2018 & it was actually 2016. Not "caught up" in my birthday. Just mentioned it is my bday month. It's just another day for me

I had to pay a traffic fine of $120 this week. (My license expired cuz I read the date wrong). Then, my a/c went on the blink, my garage door doesn't work, and my closet door broke. I'm afraid to touch much of anything for fear I'll break that too! May is my birthday month & Memorial Day weekend, I usually go to a casino. They give you $10 to play and a Tshirt anythime during your bday month. Guess I'll skip that this year. Maybe I'll treat myself to a nap instead!

@cookinfreak

First .... Happy Birthday!

Secondly, rather than going to a casino (since it's hard to stop when their $10 is gone; that's why they sucker you in that way)  why not treat yourself to a manicure, or a movie marathon, or take yourself out for a banana split sundae (or whatever your favorite ice cream dish is).

If you think you must go to the casino, please stop while you're ahead and use that money to start building an Emergency Fund.   Stuff happens, and it feels good to be prepared for the inevitable rainy days that come along.
