@Solar Is My Name My momma was my BEST friend!    She was an excellent southern cook.     She taught me a lot about life as she was the baby in a family of 12 brothers and sisters so she could be your best champion ot my worst critic.    She also took ne to church and taught me to have faith and pray!

My mom was a survivor of an abusive childhood after losing both her parents when she was nine. She was sent to live with the perverbial "wicked stepsister" and her husband. The authorities finally removed her from that environment at age 15 and her life started over for the better. When she had a family of her own she was determined to provide the best home possible for her children.

She was a great cook and our appreciation gave her such joy.

She had a quick wit.

She was extremely strong emotionally and was always there for me. I always knew that everything would eventually be all right.

She was Hispanic but born and raised in the US. She had no trace of an accent but from the time I was old enough to remember she called me and my sister "mijita" (my little daughter). I haven't been called that for 10 years now. She was beautiful inside and out.

Dementia has reduced my mother to the functional level of a 5 year old.  All I do is remember the woman she used to be.
