Welcome to the Back Fence for January 2018

Very chilly morning out West but a good beginning for a new year. Last night at midnight some idiot was setting off fireworks. That is a BIG NO NO in this land of little water and big fires. How stupid but many are. I think some, if not most of the noisy things was here two houses up. They moved in last Summer and have set them off there before - stupid!!!!! Do not know what they had but sure woke me and the little girl up.

Both little ones are sick - took them to Urgent Care yesterday and was told they have a viral infection but both are running fevers - they are good as gold but obviously not feeling good. Bless Them!!

Of course will start off the New Year with some of those yummy bagels. Also great waffles and of course some coffee.

Have a great day one and all. In addition to eating all day today, some watching football and the Rose Parade??

Re: Welcome to the Back Fence for January 2018

Good Morning and Happy New Year @Winifred and @meallen616

I have no idea if anyone around here set off fireworks or shot a gun.  I barely made it to 10:30.  I was nodding on the couch and said, that's it, go to bed Bernie.  I slept good for the second night in a row.  I think I'm finally catching up on sleep lost earlier in the week to this cold/cough.

Re: Welcome to the Back Fence for January 2018

started to post here and then got a call from my Texas sis.   I think we got caught up.   Our neighbors behind us had a party last night.  They often have gatherings but this morning around 3:30 am there was loud talking and it looked like the neighbor was ordering a guy out of the house.  There was a couple standing at the end of the drive  who were also disagreeing with each other but Eventually hugged and went back inside. That kind of disruption has never happened before so I don't know if someone new was there or not.  It had snowed so couldn't identify the car.    After the car left, I was able to go back to sleep.  Thank goodness  the only fireworks that seemed to go off were the ones downtown.   Most things had been cancelled because of the extreme cold and wind chill.

Happy New Year to all the Fencers.  May 2018 be good for all of us.

Brrrrr!    It's brutal out there today. Actual temp is 13 below.   Wind chill is 30 below.   Bernie, I imagine your temps are about the same as ours.   Hope you and your birds stay warm.   I'm thankful I don't need to go to work but I need to run to the grocery store.  There will be a run on milk and bread I imagine.  At least the gas tank on the car is full.

Re: Welcome to the Back Fence for January 2018

Now that is way too cold for me Betty. Seems every year there are freezes out there somewhere - always hear about them. Only time I ever lived in that kind of weather was in Germany but for some reason never felt cold over there. Something was different. That 5 story home was ALWAYS warm in the winter and refreshing in the summer - go figure. Loved that house. Have certainly lived in colder climates in the USA than we normally have here but never was miserable. Course I was much younger also. LOL.

Hope all stay warm and you are all ready to get 2018 moving along.

Re: Welcome to the Back Fence for January 2018

I made myself go to the store yesterday to pick up cough syrup and more soup.  I'm back to work today and it's cold, however if I heard it right, it's about to get colder for the next couple of days.  God Bless the homeless, be it a person or animal.

@Epicurean  Ouch, that is expensive.  Just think though, you will have old school pipes that should last a lifetime.  I have old fashioned metal pipes and should any one of them go, I am not going the route of PVC plastic.

@yock  Yea, we tend to share the same weather pattern.

@Winifred  are the kids feeling any better?  I caught a cold that started to really take hold on Christmas Eve and it pretty much kicked my butt for a week.

Re: Welcome to the Back Fence for January 2018

Bernie, you are right about those pipes. They found the leak. The water in the laundry room was coming from the wall behind my tub/shower. The only reason they found it was because they had to get under my sink and open the wall to change pipes for shower. The shower is in the bath room, however,my sink is in a dressing area outside of the B/R. Guess itwas a good idea to have the pipes redone.

this was only a deposit Bernie, the total cost is a little over 8,pluss we'll have to have someone fix the wallboard that's cut out.oh well, guess our IRA check came just at the right time.

Re: Welcome to the Back Fence for January 2018

@Epicurean  I am about to have 4 crowns put into my head.  Two needed and the other 2 more or less to match the first two.  My insurance should cover some of the first two - the last two are on me.  I'm telling you this because I can feel where you are coming from.  I already know where my income tax refund (assuming I get one) and work bonus will be going.

It's always something, lol.
