I live in Central Illinios,and winters here can be pretty darn cold.I normally keep my temp at 57 or 58,along with warm jammies and my soft Berkshire rob.Today,for the first time ever,I just kicked my heat up to 61.I took a picture to send to my family,because they wouldn't believe it.I am on budget billing,and usually stay at 57.00 for gas and lights per month.We have blizzard warnings for Saturday plus snow,so it will be interesting.
Stay warm and cozy friends

@Luvsmyfam. I couldn't live in a house with the thermostat set at 50 anything. I keep mine on 70° days and 60° nights. I'm none too warm at 70° in my drafty house. I'm dressed in jeans, warm boots, a thermal undershirt and warm flannel or fleece top. Today was very cold so I also added a warm vest.

I'm on the west coast of FL and we've had some cold dreary days high today was 59 and drizzling.
I have my heat on 71. And I'm chilly wrapped in my blanket too!
I couldn't have my heat that low if I lived in your area. I'd be freezing🥶. My electric bill is about $100/month.
@Luvsmyfam stay warm🙂

We keep it at 67 during the day and sometimes lower it a few degrees at night. My house wouldn't even get down in the 50's without heat, it doesn't get that cold here.

68 for heat in chilly/cold weather
74 for AC in warm/hot weather

No thermostat. We use a woodstove for heat. We have 10 acres of oak, fir, madrone and pine trees. Hubby has been cutting our firewood for over 45 years. Sometimes I get the stove too hot and have to open the windows. There's nothing like heat from a woodstove.. There are things about it that are not fun such as waiting for the stove to cool down so it can be cleaned out and hauling the wood into the house. For now it works.

68 degrees
Couldn't live in a house as cold as yours. I'd look elsewhere for ways to save money.

I'm in WV where winter is also dark and cold, with varying levels of snow; our thermostat stays on 72 year round. There is no way my family could live in this house with the thermostat on 60 or under!
Mom went into 24/7 care in September and her thermostat in an empty house is set on 65. When a house is cool and damp, mold and mildew will grow. In winter our electric bill runs in the $300-$400 range.

I'm in the Northeast and my thermostat rarely goes over 62 degrees. I dress warm and like to be comfortable so it works for us. It's not a save money situation, but comfort.

I live in Wisconsin and we keep ours at 71 or 72 in the daytime and 68 at bedtime. No offense but I could never visit you with a house that cold. I'm perfectly happy not sacrificing comfort for my gas bill each month. I'd be soooo miserable if I had to bundle up indoors, but that's me.
