In some states his wife easily could "sue you".....it's called 'Alienation of affection' in some divorce cases, such as my mother's divorce.

You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

Why all the unsolicited advice? The OP is concerned about a man for whom she cares. They have a friendship that matters to her, perhaps more than it does to him not unlike many friendships. To suggest she needs counciling is way out of line.
