I haven't renewed my glasses in a few years: putting off due to things coming up, weather and simple procrastination.
Yesterday, I went and had my eye test, getting a new prescription, and new frames. I haven't been wearing my glasses, just for driving, for quite a while. It seemed I could see much better without them! Anyways, the doctor checked my old glasses prescription after giving me the eye test.
Fortunately, I still don't need bifocals as I have no problem reading most things, except for teeny-weeny things at times. But. what really floored me was when he told me my eyesight had improved! He explained sometimes when we get older our vision can improve!
Well, was just wondering if this has happened to any of you? Also must add, guess there's a benefit to growing older!![]()

I have been wearing tri-focals for years and have check-ups every year. My eyes have not changed much at all and the doctor said that was very unusual. I take Andrew Lessman's ultimate eye support and have done so for about 2 years. I think that is what has helped me but even before that my eyes didn't change that much. Some people just have good genes I gues. Just for info I am 73.

I've never heard of that happening; if it happens it must be very rare. My vision has had a steady decline. I had an exam about 2 weeks ago and found I have macular degeneration in the beginning stage. Both my parents were legally blind from it.

Sorry to hear that, @Kachina624. I've never heard of improved vision before either. Actually, was kinda thinking I was nuts 'cause I could see so much better without my glasses. At least now I know it wasn't my imagination!

My vision has improved in recent years. I have astigmatism in both eyes and my right eye is much weaker than my left - my contact and glasses prescription has changed demonstrably, and my right eye is stronger than before.
My near vision is better, too. My ophthalmologist tells me this can happen with age. I am 58.

@Sweetbay magnolia, my astigmatism has greaty improved, along with my nearsightedness! Sounds like you won't need glasses by the time you're my age!

@eddyandme Yes, I have had the same thing happen. My ophthalmologist explained that a temporary increase in vision is fairly common as we age and here is the reason:
Some call this "second sight" which has a simple physiological explanation. As the lens of the eye hardens as we age (the predecessor of frank cataracts) it changes the way light is "bent" as it enters the eye much the way different prescriptions in a pair of glasses do. So if you were hyperopic (needed plus correction) and you start developing pre-cataract changes, your vision may temporarily go through a phase where either the near or distance vision gets better. Unfortunately as you continue to age, this process will make your overall vision worse and you will need cataract surgery. Enjoy it while you have it!
I'm betting on my lifestyle to turn around the development of cartaracts. Best of health to both of us!![]()
