@ECBG - Just checking on you. Haven't heard from you in the past few days. How are you? Did you ever get your hair cut?

I just got home from urgent care. I had a very strong feeling I should urinate, yet couldn't even with the pressure to go even after waiting 20 minutes! This discomfort has gone on 3 days!
Med was just sent in!
@ECBG I am writing this with no intent to be snarky or mean.
Just a thought...you might want to reconsider posting so much personal health information on the board.
Perhaps you could talk to and share with a family member or trusted friend instead of doing it here.
I hope your issues are resolved and you feel better soon.
I totally agree with @Mersha
I don't post here often anymore, but I see two long time posters who are posting TMI about their personal medical issues. This board is not private.

I know your comments are well intended, but this poster is asking for help. I think she feels comfortable here, she has always posted a lot, including personal information. I think it would be best to encourage her to get help. I don't think she is getting the right kind of help.

I just checked. She was last seen online 8/15/2024. Thats 4 days now. She never stays away that long especialy now retired as she likes to post.
I have a feeling someone came and took her finally thank goodness. She had so much going on and so who knows why be it mentally or physically.
Maybe under observation? It doesn't matter. She is finally getting the help she needed.

Hopefully that is the case.

Hi @ECBG
I hope you are doing better. Have you seen your gp about all these nagging issues? I know you have been in touch with his office, but maybe a full visit would be good, to take a fresh look at those back/spine/ankle/sciatica issues that have been nagging you all year.
I think you had said you thought you would need back surgery but wanted to wait until January 2025 to avoid interfering with your Thanksgiving and maybe returning to work for the Holiday season, but it has been so many months and maybe it is time to take a fresh look, or try a different physician.
I think you mentioned that you are taking gabapentin, which I am not familiar with, but seems to be very popular based on the number of people who post here that they take it.
The NY Times had an article a couple of days ago reporting on concerns by physicians that this medication is being oversprescribed because of an aggressive campaign by its manufacturer, since this medicine has only been approved by the FDA for epileptic seizures and and postherpetic neuralgia, the nerve pain that can linger after a bout of shingles. My impression was that your pain was from a pinched nerve.
While I believe many patients have found this medicine beneficial to address other health conditions and greatly improved the quality of their lifes, these physicians were pointing that other patients suffer more with side effects like drowsiness, dizziness and confusion, which is associated with an increased risk of falls and fractures. I seem to recall you have posted a couple of times about falls. The physicians are warning that gabapentin can also set off what they call a a “prescribing cascade,” in which problematic side effects from that drug are then treated with additional drugs. For example, many gabapentin users experience swelling in their legs, for which a diuretic is often prescribed. And diuretics have their own side effects like dizziness, falls, dehydration, abnormal electrolyte levels, which may then lead physicians to prescribe additional medication.
So maybe it is time to see your primary care provider about the treatment that you have been receiving from urgent care and others (including your own self-medication), and get an evaluation for the whole of you.
I wish you nothing but the best of health and a quick recovery.
I am looking forward to seeing you again rocking some new fashions and accessories.

That is a very nice letter you just wrote @NYCLatinaMe but I feel she is not home but getting some kind of inpatient care.
I don't think it's gabapentin. She has been medicated with other drugs including anti depressants for some time. When one is combining it can cause danger and the real indicator is when she fell twice. She was working just weeks before. I would definitely not name gabapentin at fault here. I took it for three months myself at the hospital summer of 2021 and it was mixed with strong painkillers. It did not affect me mentally at all. It's not a doping drug unless one takes a bottle of it. lol.
There was much more going on which we have no idea. I wish her well though and this is a good sign she is not posting. She is getting help thank goodness. She will be back and in great shape. ![]()

Hi @Pink123 I obviously don't know. Just sharing what I read.
The article also mentioned that the Beers Criteria, a directory of potentially inappropriate drugs for older adults, warned last year that gabapentin was associated with an increased risk of falls and fractures when used concurrently with certain drugs that act on the central nervous system, like antidepressants, and as you mentioned, I think she mentioned she had been taking them, but had to stop because of the painkillers, and then she switched from the painkillers to gabapentin.
She may just not be posting because she doesn't feel well. She may not be well enough to read. One of the patients mentioned in the article that took gabapentin said it made her sleep for days.
No way for me to know what is going on.
But if I were her I would be reassessing my course of treatment. If her current doctor has recommended what she has been doing, I would be looking for another one. I would be concerned that my treatment was inappropriate.
That happened to me in my thirties, which should have been the best years of my life. I went to a doctor that was not treating me correctly, and I was too preoccupied with work, etc., I kept seeing him for 3 years, and I wasn't getting better.
I switched health insurance plan and doctors and had surgery. I suffered for about 10 years. My forties were better, thank G_d, but one never gets that time back.

I know posters were worried about her, as she did post her medical issues. She may not feel comfortable posting for a while.
