I cringe when they pronounce the T in often.

And, I agree that WELCOME ON IN or Welcome in sound odd. I notice they say that a lot on JTV, also.

I pronounce the T in often. Both pronunciations are acceptable. Actually, the origin of the word, has a hard T.

I've been surprised how many people I thought knew better use bad grammer. I worked with teachers that did this.  A common incorrect usage was in writing they'd put "should of" instead of "should have".  Same with Could of.

My mom hated when reading the newspaper back when weddings were announced and they'd always incorrectly write "the couple are at home in..."  when it should be "couple is" as it's one couple.

@KKJ

I apologize in advance of posting this comment, but I couldn't help myself ....

It's "grammar" ... not "grammer".

I also cringe at the "should of" and "could of".

Now that I'm thinking about it, another common mistake is "try AND" instead of "try TO".

Okay, I'm getting off my soapbox now.   lol  Woman LOL

@Tinkrbl44 Oops!  Sorry, don't know how I didn't catch that as I pride myself on being a good speller. Will try to fix it.

I agree that the improper use of language is annoying.  The other day an on air journalist was talking about an historic moment and referred to it as "a" historic moment.  Sheesh.

"Traditionally, the word an is used as an article before vowel sounds and the word a is used as an article before consonant sounds. Formally, the word historic begins with a consonant sound and so the form a historic is preferred in formal writing."

@lgfan   I know that.  Be that as it may, I am used to hearing people say "an historic".

Ladies, "don't sweat the small stuff" or "pick your battles".

Life is short.  Concentrate on the positive.
