Re: UNC SHOOTING AND I WAS THERE!!!

@Shanus - Wow! I'm so glad you two are OK, and I can imagine how you are shaken up. Just being there was enough to impact you for a while. I'm so sorry to hear one of the professors was killed.

DD went to a small college right next to a university. In fact, her first floor freshman dorm window looked right at one of the university's buildings.

It was about the third week after school started. I was getting dressed and had the news on. There had been a shooting at the university. I called DD, who was getting ready for her 8 a.m. class. Her roommate wasn't there. I told her what happened. She said she didn't receive an emergency notification on her phone, and she had to get to her class. She was worried about missing it. I told her stay put and stay away from the window.

Then I tried to call campus security. Understandably they weren't answering. So I did what every sane mom would have done, and called the state police!

I knew they wouldn't be able to tell me anything, but I explained my situation as a worried mom who couldn't reach campus security and had a daughter determined to go to her class. They were really nice. The officer I talked to said he couldn't tell me much, but he did say the public was not in danger.

It turned out to be an isolated situation. Three students were involved, and two were shot  -  one in the ankle and one I can't remember where. Both were treated and released. Two men and one woman had met and attended a mixer, and apparently there was a romantic triangle.

We parents did receive an email from the college president later in the day.

Although it was nothing like what you experienced, I still am a little shaken when I remember.

I will be thinking of you and Molly and all of the students and others who were there.

Re: UNC SHOOTING AND I WAS THERE!!!

Thank you all so much for your concern and good wishes of comfort.

Molly slept through the day as usual and I took the day to rest up and sent up my own prayers.

You've all been supportive and I so appreciate that. Molly says so, too.

Shanus, thankyou for sharing your experience.

This type of  thing has become all too frequent.

It does make one pause and re think things.

I am much more aware now and worry about going certain places.

Re: UNC SHOOTING AND I WAS THERE!!!

@Shanus This hit close to home for me because my son is a university professor in a big city. There was a time when I thought of that as a safe profession, but no more. Glad that you and your Molly came through ok and sad for us all to be living in such times.

@ECBG   Yes, it was a frightening time. We're doing OK, but took a few days to calm myself down. Molly was a bit bothered by all the sirens. The professor that was killed had 2 small daughters...quite sad and pointless.
