UNC SHOOTING AND I WAS THERE!!!

It made national news yesterday that an active shooter was on campus. A faculty member was killed. The suspect taken into custody within several hours, but the campus, all elementary and high schools and the entire town was "shelter in place"/lock down for hours....a scene we've watched too often.

Yes, I was walking with Molly on campus as I often do...dodging the rain drops... and got back in my car for home. I came upon the huge police presence and rescue vehicles, fire trucks, first responders, etc. Most streets were blocked off and detours signs everywhere.

Cars were stopped as the police asked for windows to be rolled down so they could look inside for the shooter. Molly was in the back and the nicest poilceman reached in and loved her up. We were stuck/stranded in the stopped traffic for over an over and Molly was so good...slept through the incident.

I was and am still shaken up a bit. It was frightening being right there on campus at the wrong time. The kids were beginning their second week on campus and I'm sure parents were going crazy as the news covered the events unfoilding. Eventually the kids were led ou of the bldgs. by police with their hands up.

The FBI agents are still in town searching the campus for the weapon...not sure it's been found yet.

What a day!!!! Staying home today to chill out.

@Shanus , that's so scary. I pray each day and night for our students' safety. I can only imagine how anxious they must be in this world. When I was in school, we had fire drills and fallout drills. I don't think we worried, but, when you're young, you're pretty fearless. I hope the kids are all right and very glad you're safe!

My granddaughter is a sophomore at UNC and it was a very scary day for all of us! I am very sorry about the professor who lost his life but relieved that no one else was hurt.
