We had a couple of slow moving super cells in Ok 10 miles north to northeast of us late last night. I guess a tornado touched ground in several areas but no damage or casualties reported. They must have been going across some empty open fields. They kept building up & going away & coming back. We had to watch the weather for over 2 hrs waiting for the storms to move out of our area. The areas 10 miles from here had golfball/softball size hail & 2-3" of rain in less then an hour so there was flooding.

DH was sitting out front smoking a cigar drinking some whiskey while it was storming. I stepped out front & looked at the sky & said that's Tornado weather. Wall clouds, humidity & those wicked looking skies.

We are in for the same today & tomorrow. We are in the moderate category for baseball hail, 80 mph winds & tornadoes possible right now until midnight.

Do you have a celler?

@Nightowlz - We are going in to hurricane weather - I dread this time of year. There is already a storm near the Bahamas which might become a Tropical Storm on Friday. Stay safe

No cellar/basement or shelter. We will have to ride it out in the hall bathroom.

I thought I heard one tornado in Kansas stayed on the ground for 80 miles?  Is that possible?  The size of the tornados I've seen lately are frightening!  I wouldn't want to live in OK or KS - I would be scared to death.  Indiana is better, we aren't in tornado alley - we get one occasionally, but nothing like the size of the ones in the plains.  Please stay safe and be diligent and prepared.

@riley1 I know. I saw where Fl & up the coast might get rain from the one near the Bahamas. We are going to Fl next month so we are kind of going from one type of weather to another. Stay Safe. Hope we won't run into a lot of rain like we did last trip. I never thought we would make it home alive with all the rain, crazy drivers & accidents we saw.

They had several in Ks. I thought I heard one was on the ground for about 90 mins. I sure would not want to be in that. I have lived here for 43 yrs & never seen a tornado.

I get more freaked out when we have an earthquake & you can feel the gound beneath your feet. I don't really get freaked out when they talk about tornadoes for some reason. Probably because we have never been in that situation.

@Nightowlz

I too have lived in an area where tornadoes are a given.

Please be prepared, safe and always seek shelter. I looked at the weather forecast this morning and it looks like a few more days of the same severe weather might happen.

My SIL's house has been hit twice.

Please take care!

I have nightmares about tornados...I really do. They are so realistic and so scarey that I wake up in the middle of nightSmiley Surprised

. Here, too, I have to live in fear of them. Today is one of those scarey-looking, dark-gray days with the smell of humidity and static in the air. Scarey!Smiley Surprised

I'm so scared of tornadoes.  I've never been near one but you never know what can happen. I don't know how you prepare especially if you're travelling and they come thru where you are.
