I was shocked too. Stunned, really!
It seems everybody wants a tip these days. Unlike food servers, these people are getting at least minimum wage and shouldn't be looking for tips.

We're all used to seeing tip jars at beverage and food stands, but a tip jar at the deli counter? That's a new one!
At another out of town market I was at, they offered a service to help carry your bags to your car, and help load them if needed. The guys were wearing florescent vests for safety and right on the front of the vest, in big black letters, it said NO TIPPING. That's a great service to the elderly or someone with any kind of a disability! And it was nice to see that they'll do their job with no tip required!
Tipping was meant for service above and beyond! Tipping was not meant to subsidize someone's salary!
Tipping at the deli, I find offensive and I would complain to management.
Personel carryig groceries for the elderly/disabled, etc., with no tipping allowed - I applaud management.
Yeah, it started out that way but now it's morphed into everyone wanting a piece of the pie.
If this was my local market I would've approached management. If I see this starting in my hometown, I will definitely say something to management.

I'm not adding new services to my tip list.

There has to be a good explanation for the tip jar at this particular deli, did you bother to ask @lmt? I would have asked because I'm curious that way without assuming the worst about the deli.

I am totally sick of it too. Starbucks has the nerve to have a jar at the drive-thru. It's your darn job! Just because you are waiting on someone you deserve a tip - think again!

OH My Goodness why are tip jars so offensive to some of you complaining about them? Just ignore them, no one is obligated to tip or twisting your arm to do so! Of all the things to be upset over! How is tipping or not tipping affecting your quality of life?
Cancer
Poverty
Homelessness
The three above issues are worth being upset over!

I never heard of such a thing, no way would I tip the deli counter workers. I don't tip the cashiers, why the heck would I tip them!

My husband worked in a deli for 2 years and not once did he ever come home with a tip, they earn an hourly wage and in no way should be expecting a tip, JMO!

They know there are some people who just can't resist putting change in a tip jar.

So what? Is that taking money from your wallet?
