Thank You, Catwhisperer and I send you best wishes and hugs!
Greeneyedlady - I don't think anybody is forcing any of us to do this. I cannot speak for others, of course, but I do it because I want to do it as long as I can. Venting about it here is not a bad thing, especially because I imagine we want to be gracious to those for whom we do these things. Venting is good. ![]()

@chickenbuttSorry I didn't mean it that way, I just think there's nothing ungracious about putting yourself first. That's all
Just think women deserve to sometimes.
Nothing wrong with venting either

Good points!
I think that, at least from my generation and back, there was so much of always putting everybody else first that it's a difficult mold to break. I know I still do that to the extent that I can and then sometimes I end up mad at myself for not considering ME for once. hehe -
You are totally right that putting oneself first, at least sometimes in life, is absolutely essential.
Yup - venting is good!
Happy day to ya.

I am sorry about your health. I have been having issues, too.
Here is how we are going to manage Christmas:
1) Honeybaked ham and their sides!
Family will be at our house! (It will be messy!)
DH said, "you know, after Christmas dinner." I said "what Christmas dinner" (pardon if that sounded twitchy)
So, he is ok with planning it all and warming everything up!
Last year, we had turkey and the trimmings for the three brothers. This year, DH said "that is too much work."
We just returned from "the Home" (DBIL stays there). We enjoyed the meal and company... they cleaned up!

Hey Loves!
This is kind of what I do for Christmas. It's like a thousand times easier on me. I do a ham, mashed sweet potatoes, and - darn, I forgot what else I usually make.
We don't do a zillion courses, so it's usually just a veg on top of that and one dessert. But he really likes that meal, too. I'm not one for putting a bunch of sweet stuff into sweet potatoes. We like them just either baked (like a regular baked potato with butter, and s&p), or mashed (with maybe some hard cheese like an asiago, and a bunch of butter and s&p). With those, gravy seems inappropriate, so I don't even make a gravy.
This meal I can do in one day (yay!) still because there isn't the massive amount of prep that goes into the Thanksgiving one.
But my thing is that if I'm going to do it, I insist that I do it right so it's a lot of work. Next week will be a cake walk. I can take the morning off and start cooking in early afternoon.
I'm enjoying this morning but it's almost 1pm and I have to get started on the last part. For Mon, Tues, and Wed, I'm working most of the day because I have to take a lot of breaks. Last night I got done at 5:45 with everything except washing the last of the dishes and taking out the turkey carcass. He did the carcass thing for me and that was super helpful.
I just started doing the turkey on Wednesday a couple of years ago and it makes it way easier! I have it carved, some in a casserole for today (just add a splash of stock and heat it up in the oven with the dressing) and the rest in a Lock & Lock to dispense with on Friday. I make up some packets that I vacuum seal for the freezer. These turkeys have massive breasts so I enjoy having several packets of just that and then maybe one 2lb package to use later for turkey chili.
Well, it's almost 1:00 so I guess I'm going to start on my first task for today. ![]()
Happy day!

I think with life experiences and changes that it is good to sometimes share or pass the baton. It sometimes makes others feel special when they are asked to help with bringing dishes. Now when it is just a small group I sometimes dont feel like going all out and just pick what I want the most.
@chickenbutt healing thoughts coming your way. I have battled some health issues that cause me to just run down. When tha thappens I have no choice but to stop. I know you enjoy being able to make all the food. I hope you feel better soon.

Whew! On a break. Thanks, Doxie.
Yeah, I have learned that it is essential that I pace myself. It takes longer to get everything done, but that's the way it needs to be. I think that figuring out your limitations goes a long way toward being able to complete tasks.
Now, if I get overwhelmed, I end up in this weird state of confusion so I try hard to keep myself on an even keel.
Thanks!
