Re: Thinking of the tip issue today

I would not dream of skipping the tip for a stylist. They don't make a lot, which isn't our fault, but deserve to be recognized for their work.

I'm a good tipper. People who serve me, whether it's hair or a restaurant, are worthy of it.

If people can't afford to tip, they need to stay home. IMO, it's rude and selfish to not tip.

Re: Thinking of the tip issue today

I've been going to the same stylist for about 25 years.  For Christmas I just double the tip amount I normally give her and just say when I give it to her "Merry Christmas".

She always has a small gift for the customers - sometimes a small daily planner calendar with the name of the shop on the cover, a pen with a stylus, a small tube of hand cream, etc.  It's a nice small token to say that she appreciates the business from her customers.

Re: Thinking of the tip issue today

I am the OP..my post was misleading...I was referring to the Christmas gift/tip issue.

I always tip at my monthly hair cut, but I decided this year is the last year I am going to gift my hairdresser.  I just don't see a need for it.

I agree 100% @CalminHeart .  Who decides not to tip anymore, especially during the holidays?!

We are generous tippers also. Wait staff, Valets,  House keepers, hair stylists, delivery men that bring us our new furniture and set it up, etc. all are tipped well during the year.  For the holidays they get extra.

As CalminHeart said "If people can't afford to tip, they need to stay home.  IMO, it's rude and selfish to not tip."
