I would look at the carfax and if there is nothing on there I'd buy the used one. It would still have 2 years of warranty on it.
We bought our car on a lease and it will be turned in this december. It is in perfect condition, absolutely spotless and exactly still in brand new condition.Someone will get a really good deal on a very nice car. My DH always drove a company car and got a new one every year so just getting him to keep a car for 3 years is a miracle, and so for him a lease is a good thing but for most people a car is a huge investtment that needs to be thought out very carefully.

Back in the days when our business was more profitable my DH traded cars every 3 years....it was his splurge, the car he is currently driving is a little over 4 years old...I think we have decided on purchasing the new vehicle, although the used one was just a loaner for the dealership and was in great shape. The new one has a few more things on it that he really wanted. We don't lease, for us, it does not seem like a good investment.

FWIW....
My father has always told us kids growing up, "never buy anyone else's problems."
@Mz iMac, My husband & I both agree on this about used cars! IMO, if you cannot afford to buy a new car, unless you present car is falling apart, get your current car fixed ......... I know people say that a new car depreciates when you drive it off the lot, but still, it is a "new" car! We won't buy used cars!

I asked my ds, the car guy. He said usually it's best to buy loaner, but he'd have to know make of car!

The only place I'll buy a used car is CarMax and I have done so, many times. Fantastic service and if anything goes wrong, they'll fix it ASAP. OP, as you've said, a car deprecates the second you drive it off the lot so why buy new?

Thinking about leasing one of those mini-type of cars (various brands). Just for driving in and around town, locally. Not for (me) driving on high-speed, major fast-moving hiways/freeways/expressways/etc. Several neighbors around here have been leasing them. Started out at $99 a month a couple of years ago, on special promotions. Now they are around $200 per month, from what I've heard. Love the retro colors now-a-days, too! Easier to park in the smaller parking spots in shopping centers. p.s. (edited) Yesterday, I ran across a four-door KIA, toned-down lime green. Nice and high (height), seemed very sturdy. I believe it's sub-make/name was '"Soul"' or something similar. I jotted the name down; it's in my car right now. Yes, it's KIA SOUL. Very cute. I don't know the price range or the leasing prices yet, though.

Check out certified pre-owned vehicles. They have the same warranty as new cars and have been checked out thoroughly. we have purchased 2 certified used cars and love them. They are slightly more money but well worth it for the peace of mind.

I would go for the new. I bought my car new just over 3 yrs ago. It has all the bells & whistles that I still don't know how to use. I hardly go any place so it's still low mileage like almost 10,000. DH has a 2005 PU with about 50,000. I sold my 1991 Dynasty that had around 70,000 miles on it when I bought my Toyota Avalon Limited. We keep our cars for a long time. My Dynasty was 22 yrs old when we sold it. It was still in very good condition. Now DH wants a new truck.

We ended up not purchasing the car, sigh.....the salesman called and told my husband that Ford and taken off the $1000 rebate so the car would cost that much more.....husband stood firm and is not willing to pay an extra $1000.00 The car he was looking at is a new 2016.....you would think they would want the 16 models off their lot.
