@Desert Lily wrote:@SeaMaiden Our local news, weather, and govt. say to make sure pets are indoors before heat hits 90 degrees. Heat can cause death in humans and pets. And, hot concrete can burn pets' paws. Here, people can be prosecuted for not keeping their pets in a climate-controlled environment.
@Desert Lily on the days we expect 107 degrees, I will keep them both inside. Thank you for the suggestion!

Drama Queen!
@Still Raining Dogs don't do drama queen. It was in distress and need to be inside where it was cooler. Driveway is the hottest part of a property and could be over 130° degrees.
Nope, that side of the house faces north and never gets sun. Ferns seem to do well. 45th parallel and all.
The driveway is lined with trees. DD and I pick that side to sit in the shade. Actually that part of the lawn is shady too. Dog won't go near the back deck in summer.
Dog has cool water available at all times in the shade.
Dog went out to do business as I was leaving and took out after a squirrel.
Then she went back into the ac after several minutes.
She is spoiled 🤣

Here in Vancouver we are supposed to hit 112 degrees this weekend. It is definitely unprecedented heat for this area. We rarely even hit 100 during the summer. Our normal summer is 80's and low 90's. We are so glad we got central air a few year ago.

@SeaMaiden The fires last summer were horrible. The smoke was as thick as pea soup. We didn't leave the house for weeks. We let our dog out to do her business but never took her for a walk during that time. Bad enough being home because of covid but then add the fires and we couldn't even go outside.

I am about a hour north of Seattle. I do not do heat well.We have a.c and also an a.c. window style and ceiling fans. Ihave 3 cats and 2 dogs so the dogs will be inside for 4-5 days. I hope everyone in Washington State stay cool. Cats always stay in.

@SeaMaiden Oh dear God, 107. I melt just thinking about it. I hope everyone in this awful heat wave stays safe.
We have had some 90/93 degree days with he**ish humidity, I stay inside. We make sure the stray cats we feed have plenty of cold water, we change it 2/3 times a day. They have shade also.
I hate really cold weather but I can always add a layer or put on heavier socks. 107, well, you can only strip down so far. lol
Take care in this weather.

@LuvmyLab I am saying an extra prayer for the power grid to hold up with the extra strain on it from all the fans and AC....

@SeaMaiden Good point! I never thought about that. On the news it said that one hardware store had sold 200 air conditioners in one day. Repair places are saying that they are prioritizing AC repairs, eldery, ill folks have priority. Regular maintenance calls are put on hold for now. Luckily our maintenance isn't until late Fall.

@LuvmyLab yes, that smoke was unbelieveable... it appeared to be dense fog outside when we looked out the windows. Never have I seen air quality like that before... at least this year I have a supply of masks to wear if the same situation comes up again.. last year I did not have a mask and of course never even THOUGHT ABOUT WEARING ONE....

One of the issues here is that the temps do not go down appreciably at night so sleeping is difficult.
I am so glad we put in ac a few years ago.
