@SeaMaiden . I'm afraid that I have a similar condition. However instead of being bow legged I'm very knock kneed! I've had it all of my life (the ugliest knees!) but it's gotten more severe as I've gotten older and now my knees (particularly my right knee) are in so much pain I limp when I walk. Time to see a specialist in the new year.

If you don't mind answering could you let me know if you are now pain free? How long did it take for you to recover from your knee replacement?

@haddon9 Yes. Please do go see a joint specialist to let them know what they can do. Every case whether knock kneed or bow legged is different. I can only tell you how my outcome was.... I was on crutches because I waited too long,.... I also had at time two bad hips so my pain at age 58 was really bad. I do not know your age or how bad your knees are... but DO NOT WAIT TOO LONG! A good /better/best outcome does not get better with time. Do it sooner than later.

I had a very good outcome with my two bowed out knees... I have NO PAIN at all and my legs are beautifully straight .

I had both knees done at the same time in 2013... called bilateral knee replacedment..... you would most likely want to do that as well because you can not have one knock knee fixed and one not fixed. It makes healing too difficult. Some surgeons are not qualified to do bilateral knee replacement... you want to find a surgeon who has done many of these so be very paticular on who you choose... do your homework on picking out the best surgeon. If you lived in the Seattle/ Renton WA. area I would give you name of my surgeon as he is one of the best in the country

He also replaced both my hips in 2015... so I am now totally "FIXED" and doing very well.

As far as pain.... yes there is discomfort. You will get good pain meds and just know that the pain you feel AFTER SURGERY is not the same pain you feel NOW with the arthritis.... it is a healing pain and gets less and less. You will experince with the healing and the physical Therapy about 8 weeks of real discomfort.... sleeping is difficult at first.... but as the weeks progress everything gets better and better every day! The body heals and before you know it you will be SO GLAD YOU DID THE SURGERY. IT IS WORTH IT!

A free website called BoneSmart . org is so wonderful... I used the chat rooms everyday to discuss with others and share and learn about joint replacement. So if you have lots of questions about your particular type of knock kneed surgery.. others can answer your questions based on them having had that surgery. Please visit the website and open an account and use it. IT IS REALLY AMAZING.

I'm in the Philadelphia area and I'm sure there must be some very good specialists here that can address my conditon. I just need to find him or her.

I'm 64 and my knees have been painful for a few years...mostly going up & down stairs. It's only been since Thanksgving that my right knee has been pretty bad just walking without the stairs.

People just don't think before they speak sometime, people who should know better too. I was taking a night course at a local university back in the 90's and I had a wisdom tooth pulled and my jaw was bruised and swollen. The nutty professor commented in front of the whole class,"looks like Mrs. -----husband beat her up". I was mortified and reported him, gave him a bad review at the end of the course.

@Huge Hannah, did you stop to think that your apparent over reaction might have raised red flags? Denial, usually very strong denial, is typical when someone is being abused.

Since you knew the doctor was joking your reaction could well have him suspicious about how much bruising is due to your condition and how much might be the result of abuse particularly since you stressed that your husband could get in trouble. That alone would be a red flag--fear that your husband could get in trouble and the consequences you might face.

I appreciate your "amateur psychology" (where did you get your degree?) but you are wrong.

With so many people responding to say that the medical staff must rule out abuse,it would be fair for you to cut your doctor some slack.I am sure he finds that line of questioning uncomfortable too and he was thinking of your safety.I hope that you will be able to move on from your anger about this and just think that there are peo0le who care enough to be concerned.I am sure that this condition is very upsetting to live with but you must so you could be happier if you can accept yourself and the changes.i have a friend in her forties who is covered in psoriasis.She is a personal trainer at a gym.People come up to her all of the time to say that she should cover up those sores and ask if she is contagious.She refuses to hide her skin and tells anyone who asks what is going on.Many people since have offered different ideas to help heal the sores.People care and she feels comfortable in her own skin.She has more clients than the other trainers in spite of her imperfections so it’s not about how you look but who you are...do you love and accept yourself?

@I am still oxox We had a about 6 months ago or so who had been here a long time and was concerned about doctors, dogs in stores and some other issues that popped up all the time. She was a very long time poster who'd had several nicknames over the years.

I was just thinking this was a similar topic to a lot of posts from her. May or certainly may not be the case, I was just seeing if anyone else had been reminded of some issues brought up by this "happy" individual.
