Re: The CA Thread - NO, SO and In-Between

Traveling through Santa Cruz on Hwy 1?

There is a CHP blitz of speed guns currently being used in Santa Cruz. 42 citations for speeding issued just today between 6 am-3 pm so far. Have to admit I can be heavy-footed just south of there.

Re: The CA Thread - NO, SO and In-Between

It was a big craft fair weekend here! I went to three that were in walking distance of each other..heard of others that were a short drive away.

I purchased:

A pair of Swarovski crystal mini Christmas tree earrings for me.

Two little tote bags with ocean themes for my granddaughters

Spiced cashews to serve at some point over the next weekend

A vase to replace one that was broken by a cat!

A sea otter tree ornament that is a replica of one that I purchased for myself many years ago...this one is for my daughter.

A scarf for me.

A Greek pastry (from one of the churches).

I took out $200 cash from the ATM and planned to stick to my budget (although many of the sellers accept cc). I had money left over.  Prices were very good!

Some of the booths had pricy artwork and hand carved wooden items.  Beautiful things! But I just wanted to pick up a few small gifts and a few things for me.

Did anyone else go to any fairs this weekend?

@september, did you go to the one in Carmel? I really wanted to go to that one, it sounded wonderful, but parking is an important issue for me (I can’t walk blocks) and they said not a word about parking, so I didn’t try :-(

I went to the PG Holiday Open House - gorgeous weather! I bought myself (lol) a print for my bedroom with a mermaid; I kinda have a mermaid Thing.

There’s a craft fair in Aromas this weekend and I might go tomorrow.  I also plan to go to the Harvest Festival in San Jose next weekend. I used to go to one of the SoCal Harvest Festivals every year, I love them. I haven’t been in a while and am ready to try walking it ❤️. I went to a lovely small one at the Santa Cruz Fairgrounds last year and I hope they have it again. Buuuut - on the Friday, my local dispensary is having a 25%  off sale. Not sure yet whether I’ll do that on Fri and the Harvest Festival on Sunday maybe.

Sounds like you made quite a haul! ;-)

@Moonchilde  Yes, the bigger one I went to yesterday was the Homecrafters Marketplace, one of the best.  It's at Sunset Center, and parking wasn't too tough.  I'd say I parked abut 3 1/2 blocks away, but probably could have gotten closer if I wanted to.  When I left, I saw people getting parking within a block, because at the time, the morning crowd was leaving and others were taking their spots.

I haven't heard of the other fairs you mentioned.  After hitting three of them yesterday, I might be done for a while!

Hope you liked the Aromas fair, if you did get to it.

Oh, heavens to Betsy YES, @missy1! Much of the time I lived in OC I lived reasonably close to the fairgrounds and went not only to the swap meet but many other things held there, like the Scottish Games, the Pet Expo and the Turkish Cultural Festival among others.  The swap meet was my Sunday entertainment  for quite a few years.

Just to freak out those who love to freak out about it. FWIW, I haven’t felt a single one.

I haven't felt anything, but my cat has acted freaked out many times over the last week.  I just assumed it was because he saw a bobcat or other predator, outside.

When he acts spooked, I make the rounds of the house windows.  Sometimes I see something, other times I never learn what the problem was. I wish he could talk!

It’s funny. Some of my kitties nearly always felt quakes, and others have been clueless.

We get deer, coyotes, opossums and even turkeys, but I’m rarely up early enough to see any of them. Apparently we had 2-3 turkeys last week.

My freakiest experience was seeing a deer and doe munching on the greenery around a PG condo complex in the middle of the day, unafraid and unmolested - and a block away, half a dozen deer having a nosh on the playground at a PG elementary school. In the middle of the day! I think it was Saturday, though.
