When I moved here more than 30 years ago, I felt like I was truly “home”. It just felt right to me - comfortable climate, Pacific Ocean just over the hill, mountains a few hours away, LA a few hours and a beautiful drive away and so many wonderful places to explore in and around San Francisco. In spite of all the changes and the warming climate, I still feel most at home here, cherish the diversity of people, food, microclimates, open windows, and knowing it won’t rain during a summer dinner outdoors.

Long Beach, Signal Hill, Belmont Shore, Seal Beach and Huntington Beach were my stomping grounds from birth until I was 32. At 65 I have now lived more of my life as a Washingtonian, rather than a native Californian.

So many factors as to why we left the state but housing prices were a big driver.

I am 4th generation Californian, my daughter is 5th generation. She and I were born in San Francisco. I have stories that go way back... Blackouts during WW2, speakeasies during Prohibition and my mother’s grandfather being called out of retirement to consult on plans to build the SF Ferry Building.

We lived in Seattle for a while when I was three and four and my father had a job there. I lived in southern CA for a couple of years going to college there. Could not wait to get back home and into the cool fog.

@tansy, I lived in Belmont Shore and HB at different times. We were walking distance to the Belmont Pier, steps from the beach.

Life without Mexican food is no life at all

I live in St. Helena and was awakened Sun night/Mon morning by the smell of smoke and then finding out that the electricity was out. Then cell phones and landline went out.

Today we've had light rain and the air quality is much better.

Hi @Foggy morning. Nice to see you on this line. I love St. Helena, I hope there was no damage there. You’ve sure been through a lot. I’m so glad you got rain. It was predicted for San Francisco but we haven’t seen a drop.

St. Helena fared well. We did have fires in all directions but due the efforts of fire fighters, some from Australia and Canada, more homes and lives were spared.
