It's also a good thing to polish those hostessing skills, too. Woman LOL

@just bee

"The hostess with the mostest" I am definitely not! 😆

@geezerette

I have found that supplying guests with plenty of food and adult beverages goes a long way in concealing any hostessing deficits. Woman Wink

B-I-N-G-O !

Good food and and an assortment of beverages.  So many flavored (and bubbly) waters now are a hit, too.

The food at the restaurant was so delicious, I can't stop thinking about it!  My husband and I are going back soon before they change the menu!  Hate when that happens...

Re: The Bee Hive -- September 2025 Edition

Spent all day yesterday watching the Charlie Kirk memorial, then I watched the livestreamed vigil from ABQ's Legacy Church where Charlie had visited just last month (August 10).

Then there was the Sundance Channel tribute to Robert Redford so I watched the end of The Sting and the beginning of The Natural before I fell asleep.

Caught the end of The Natural this morning.  Then BH informed me that I would be leaving the house today.  Time to observe nature.

Spontaneous road trip.  He brought a banana and I brought a Granny Smith.

I have to eat something before I do anything else.  Back with trip details later...

I've only *known* one chiwawa (lololol).

Her name was GiGi.  She was my friend's Nonna's dog.  She was very nervous, always shaking.  But she never bit.

She cracked us up because she hated when we played jacks.  She'd lay right next to us on the paved patio and as soon as we threw out the handful of jacks, she's snarl at us.  Even if she was dozing off, her lip curled up, we'd always look for it and laugh.Woman LOL

Aw.  She's smiling! ☺️ How old is she?  She looks like she's seen a few years.🥰

There is definitely something about Chihuahua pet parents.  Most seem to think the world of their babies.  I guess a lot of dog parents are the same, no matter the breed.

And for record, I never got bit on the ankle.  And once was my own fault, I admit.  As a kid I tried to pick up a little dog that didn't want to be picked up, and let me know it.  But I will say that the few times in my life I have gotten an intentional dog bite, it was from a chihuahua.

@geezerette  She does seem to smile! She turned 12 years old in January.

I hesitated getting a chihuahua because of their yappy, ankle biting reputation. lol.

 She is my 3rd. They all have been gentle and sweet. Almost "cat" like.

I'm sorry one bit you. I do know some will snap at people if they feel threatened or are protecting their human. Everything looks so big and scary to them. Smiley Wink

@Lucky Charm  Thank you. I dread the thought of her aging. The loss of my other 2, one from a birth defect and the other from heart failure, was excruciating. I know many here understand.

Well, that explains why the breed is so darned popular. Heart

Nope! Woman LOL

We visited a spot that we had "bookmarked" several years ago.  We had no intention of visiting today but somehow we ended up in the area.

I saw a sign: Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument.

Hey!  Didn't we want to check this out at one point?

Nine miles north of the quaint little town of Mountainair, at the base of the Manzano Mountains.

There are three sites: Abó, Gran Quivira and Quarai.  This is Quarai.  (We plan to see the others at another time.)  Quarai is a mission that was completed in 1632.

It's huge.  And as we were walking through the ruins we met a gentleman who was eager to explain its history and how it was constructed.  He introduced himself as Ernest and said he used to make furniture.

Then it clicked.  He is a very famous furniture maker in this state.

One of the nice things about living in a state with a small population is that you're bound to run into someone noteworthy.

After leaving the ruins, we drove to Mountainair and walked around the "main drag."  Stopped in at an art gallery and spent a long time chatting with a local artist.

We drove past the historic Shaffer Hotel and I asked BH to stop so we could get a better look at a fence on the property.

There's so much more detail than what I've posted here.  The colors of the rocks are incredible.  A geologist's dream.  All sorts of stones set in a concrete fence.

Breathtaking.  I'd like to see it again.

And, as we were driving home, we drove through a big storm.  We left the house in summer and came home in the fall.
