I just ordered some clothes that I will wear but I don't absolutely need. Just tees, a sweater and pants that are my "uniform", so I know I'll use them. That's my justification anyway. That, and saving almost as much as I spent. And avoiding the Christmas sales.

Considering how quickly clothes disintegrate these days, you're probably smart for stocking a few items that will actually hold up.

BH wanted me to buy those hiking pants and I objected because of the cost.

Turns out, I liked them and found other colors on sale on their website.

How many years ago was that?

Still wearing them exclusively and they still look new. They even survived a house fire.

Conversely, I found a pack of Skechers socks at Costco recently. Looked similar to a sock I purchased from Costco previously so I bought two packs. Price was right.

And then I washed them.

They shriveled up and looked like little girls socks. Even the texture changed.

BH told me to take them back but I figured they'd stretch and still fit. They do, but they're not the socks I checked out with. They're tiny and fuzzy and weird.

Isn't anything made right today?

Very little.

That's why I like to keep backups of what I can still get that I know I like. But even though they may continue to say such-and-such item "is still the same as it's always been", chances are it's not. I'll settle for close to the original.

But I do have to keep in mind that I'm not going to live forever. I sure don't want to leave a closet full of unworn clothes. My problem is still not tossing the old stuff and keeping too much for "good", which for me now means clean, suitable to wear to town clothes. And somehow I always end up with too many of one thing and not enough of something else.🤷‍♀️

And you never know when I could have a house fire. Or in my case, what's more likely, a tornado.

I’m hard on socks and pay bucks for Bombas. Anything else and they have holes in them in no time.

My mother used to knit socks for me using Cashmere blend yarn. They were so soft and warm.
