Re: The Bee Hive -- September 2022 Edition

Couldn't sleep at all yesterday but made it through my first night back at work.  Lots of changes, lots of patients.

Survived the night and I'm headed towards another.  Starting to feel a little normal...

Went to the grocery store to search for things to bring to work to snack on.  (Can't go in tonight -- I think two shifts is more prudent.)  Anyway, I kept asking BH: Where's the food?

We couldn't even buy potatoes for baking.  Very few available and they looked terrible.  Ended up with yams.

Not a lot of tomatoes -- I guess they're still on the highway in California.  One whole section of the refrigerated section in the produce area was empty so I'm not even sure what was missing there.

Slim pickings.  (But tons of Halloween candy.Woman LOL)

Holiday weekend?  No, BH says it looks like this all the time.

Sad.

@just bee - Hello everyone! I haven't been here in ages because I've just been so busy that I haven't been able to keep up with reading all the pages of posts. But I miss talking to everyone!

I had to try to go back to figure out what had happend to you, @just bee  and find out about your emergency surgery. I know it's too late to reprimand you for waiting so long, but I sure was thinking it. I'm glad to hear that you're better now, enough to go back to work even.

But in response to your post, I've heard that there is going to be both a potato shortage and a tomato shortage coming up. I forget why on the potatoes, but I think the droughts were affecting the tomatoes. So if you see anything you need, ketchup, pasta sauce, etc. I'd grab it if you can.

I'm not noticing anything here yet where I'm at, but we don't need to buy a lot of fresh produce, we grow our own, and the canned stuff looks ok so far.

@rnmom

Good to see you again!

I hadn't heard about either shortage.  I shouldn't be eating potatoes in any form anyway.  As for tomatoes, except for locally grown they're virtually tasteless so I guess that would be no great loss either.

Something weird I've found is that the green grapes I've been getting this season are soft and squishy and not as tasty as normal.  It seems odd that they would be soft with the lack of rain in CA.  I would think they'd have less juice than normal.  Unless they're just old from sitting on the shelf because they're so expensive no one is buying them.

Considering how your "normal" was before your time off, I'm not sure this is a good thing or not...

But it is a good sign you survived your first night back.

And what in the heck do those little bees have around their necks?  Santa bees?🧐😆

I thought they might be badly drawn feathered boas.

Yet everyone seems to be raving about the peaches and nectarines this year.

Strawberries here are hit and miss.
