Cognitive avoidance works for me, too.

I have to turn the thoughts off and let my mind go someplace else because I still feel guilty about pets I lost decades ago.  I still feel guilty about my mother.

It's exhausting.

My mother's family had a pizzelle iron with the family crest on it and every time they got together they argued about who in the family stole it.

Definitely.  

I think one of my cousins sent away to one of those cheesey online places for a family "crest".  Which was definitely a rip off because my grandfather changed the family surname when he came to this country.  That's as close as I'll ever come to a family anything.

I've always been envious of people that can trace their family roots past a generation or two.

Strange experience last night.  No balloon glow, but they did go on with the fireworks show.

On this side of the river, I sat in my Adirondack and it was chilly, windy and rainy.  I don't think I'd ever watched fireworks in the rain.
