So...

Walmart, Trader Joe's, Sam's Club and Costco have lifted their mask mandate.

For anyone who has been vaccinated.  Since they can't ask for proof (yet), we are all on an honor system.

Target and Smith's (Kroger) still require masks.  Clearly, they don't trust us.

@just bee - Everyone seems to keep forgetting that this vax has been approved for Emergency Use only, it is NOT FDA approved. I am not an anti-vaxxer, kids are all up to date on their shots, I take the flu shot every year. But I have no intention of injecting myself or my kids with something brand new that isn't even approved yet. I'm not being anyone's guinea pig. This is getting pushed too hard, guess I'm just paranoid, but I feel like something else is going on.

This is why I don't want another degree.  When I was started college at 17 and had to write research papers, I went to this large building on the campus called "the library" and looked for information in old, dusty books.

My professors welcomed all sources.  As long as my footnotes were correct.

My last two degrees were different.  Especially the BSN.  Instructors pushed students towards particular resources.  And those resources were all government agencies (CDC, NIH, SAMHSA, CMS, OSHA...) and international agencies (WHO).  I had a problem with this.

I still have a problem with this.

@geezerette - Hubby and I went out to some garage sales Friday and I saw the most beautiful Rottie. She wasn't big, smaller than my big Chessie, and just gorgeous. You are very lucky to have such a beautiful dog.

I was talking to the owner and she said that her Rottie blows coat a couple of times a  year and other wise the shedding isn't too bad. Do you find that to be true?

I only ask because when we were researching dog breeds we read the same thing about Chessies, minimal shedding other than blowing coat. But OMG, these dogs shed unlike anything I've ever seen. I will vacuum in the morning and by the end of the day, not even 24 hours later, there will be hair and balls of tumbleweed fur all over the house. I'm just about at my wits end with it.

I had my sister's lab for a few months in my house many years ago and I don't even remember the lab shedding this bad.

How has your search been going for real estate?

My sister and her husband are still desperate to leave California but the places they wanted to go are getting too expensive.  Even if they can sell their home they won't be able to afford Idaho, Wyoming or Utah.

My sister's looking at West Virginia.

For fun, I looked at properties in Ruidoso, NM yesterday.  Found a little retirement cabin in the woods.  It's 660 sq feet.  And it's $139,000.

The photos are... let's just say that this property should have been condemned years ago.

Looks like we're stuck here.

Overcast and coolish sounds good.

Very good.

Re: The Bee Hive -- May 2021 Edition

@Oshare-girl

I was watching the Create channel today and it was mostly cooking shows.  There were back-to-back episodes about Japanese cuisine and architecture.

I was riveted.  The first episode was all about the importance of vinegar in Japanese cooking.  So many varieties of vinegar and several drinking vinegars.  Fruit flavors like Fuji apple, mango, cherry, blueberry.

And the sushi rice is not white.  Why?  Because it's prepared with vinegar.

The fish is also marinated in vinegar.  In the case of sardines, it brightens the skin and soften the bones.

This is not the sushi we get here.  We get a slab of raw fish on a pile of white rice and it all falls apart when we try to eat it.

In Japan, the vinegar improves the entire experience.  The fish adheres itself to the rice.  And a lesser quality fish can be used because the vinegar enhances the fish and it actually tastes like a better quality fish.

Or so they say.

I worked for a Japanese company for 13 years but never had the opportunity to travel to Japan.  I studied Japanese art in college and developed a friendship with a Japanese exchange student.  He thought we were dating.  We weren't.  It ended badly.

Now I'm wondering if we should have dated and moved to Japan.  Sounds like much better sushi there.

How is your mouth?

When is your appointment tomorrow?

I have my fingers and toes crossed.  But whatever happens, know that it's worth it if you can be without pain and chew happily on the things you love.

I'll be thinking of you! Heart

@just bee

Aren't you a sweetie for remembering!

The mouth is a gazillion times better than it was now that I got a huge bunch of the infection out.  But still problematic.

I got home from the dentist a while ago.  The time I actually spent with him was minimal.  An abscess.  Antibiotics--which I have to make another trip back to town to pick up because the pharmacy is so busy.😠

Unfortunately, as I suspected, he said that long term the antibiotics aren't going to cure this.  The tooth (which had a root canal/crown originally almost 50 years ago, then a replacement crown a few years ago) is likely cracked.  If I'm adamant about keeping the tooth, I'll need to see a specialist.  Otherwise, my alternative is extraction, followed by an implant, bridge, or nothing.

I don't want to go to a specialist because the tooth isn't good enough to try and save.  (Chances are if it was, it wouldn't have gotten infected anyway.)  So, I'm scheduled to get it pulled next month.  (Another casualty of the shutdown--they're still trying to catch up with cancelled appointments and that's the earliest he can get me in.)

Right now I'm leaning toward not doing anything other than extraction.  Out of the four molars I have left, it's the second one back so it doesn't really show under normal conditions, like talking.  Maybe if I laugh real hard it will be visible.  But at this point in my life, I'm not sure I care.

I have viable concerns with both an implant and a bridge, which the dentist agreed with.  He said I can just get it pulled and wait to see if it bothers me, and if so, we can do either at a later date.  So that sounded like the best option to me.

I have to say I now see why so many people just get their teeth pulled and opt not to have a root canal/crown.  The estimate for extraction only, including nitrous, was less than one-third that of a root canal/crown, even with my discount.

So I guess I better get used to gumming my food.  I really feel old now.  Soon I'll be old and toothless.

(I bought Haagen-Dazs to celebrate.)

Re: The Bee Hive -- May 2021 Edition

Hello to all, Nothing new here... except my DH and I are taking turns sleeping on the couch lately. Brisk is lonely at night and starts to bark. We come down and he falls asleep. He isn't getting over his friend, that is for sure😌

@ geezerette, Glad you got the prescription. The pain should go away quickly after you get it. Decide later what you want to do.

We are having cooler temperatures but it's starting to heat up. Nothing new here which is ok for me.
Brisk out and be back later...
