I'm in recovery mode.  This was a very bad week at work.  A couple good things came out of it, of course.  I spent time with someone and his service dog.  A pit bull that I was allowed to interact with.  He kept looking up at me and I couldn't stand it anymore.  I had to rub his head and get behind his ears.  In super slo-mo he collapsed on my feet.

Then, when I was so busy and so behind, desperately trying to catch up, I had a 40-minute phone conversation with a suicidal artist.  We discussed many things and discovered we both appreciate Edward Hopper.  Yes, on top of patient care, we also man a suicide hotline.  In addition to our regular phone line that keeps us talking to patients or their friends and families throughout the night.

But I came home and didn't even eat.  Watched a movie, went to bed and now I'm up and still haven't eaten anything.

The icing on the cake?  My supervisor's maternity leave started early and I'm in charge for the next few weeks.

There is no joy in Mudville.  But there is a cute new baby.

@just bee

Your patients are very fortunate to have someone like you there for them.  Someone who cares and is actually trying to help them, instead of just putting in the required hours like some people in your position do.

But with all the intensity of the last year or so, I hope when your supervisor comes back you can take some much deserved time off to regenerate.

We can't have you on the other end of that call line.❤️

@geezerette

I was fully expecting to be in restraints by the end of that last shift.

I don't have any time off scheduled until October so the next two months are going to be especially challenging with the added responsibility of administrative duties and decision-making.

I'm happier as a support player.

@just bee

I'd start the countdown on day one.😉

It's going to be a tough couple of months for you.  Being as conscientious as you are, you'll take the responsibility to heart.  And home with you.

BH should be prepared to have plenty of wine in stock along with your favorite homemade comfort foods readily available to you.

Take plenty of walks in the park and bosque with WGD.  Time in nature soothes the mind and soul.  (Not in the back yard fuming over failed nursery plantings.)

And remember not to sweat the small stuff.  Leave whatever can be left.

Times like this seem to reinforce the whole minimal theory of living.  The key is to have enough stuff to enjoy, but not so much that it becomes a burden in itself.  We get enough 'stuff' laid on us as it is.  Don't do it to yourself.

❤️

@geezerette

All very good advice.  Except that I take full responsibility for keeping the wine rack stocked.  Which reminds me.  My Total Wine coupon expires this week so I better get down there.

I should also avoid local news.  We are nearing 80 homicides in Albuquerque -- two in the past 24 hours -- and what is the top story of the day?

The plastic bag ban returns today.

Didn't we suspend that because of COVID?  It's Day 1.  Let's see how long it takes them to suspend it again.

@just bee

I think you should make that all news.

We could get into a one-upsmanship about homicides, so let's not even start.  The absurdity of society sometimes can't even be laughed about.

So...yes--get thee to the wine store right now! 🍷

Hey!  Now we have a third homicide!  Not far from the university.

Enrollment will continue to drop if parents begin to think their kids are going to be murdered on their way to class.

Good thing we don't have to worry about plastic bags, though.  I know I'll sleep better tonight.

That's certainly a load off your mind!  I know it was at the top of your list of fears.

At least you know future homicides won't be death by plastic bag.

Best peaches in town from Palisade. Yummy year!

Ok, watch your film and try to take it easy.

Yep, that how I got two of my last three cats.  Somebody dropped them off as kittens.  I get a lot of dropped off pets--I think people know I'm a sucker.  I'll take them in if I can, or take them to the shelter if I can't.  You don't even want to know some of the situations our shelter gets their animals out of.

Boy, it sounds like my OG was right about your area.  He was hot to move there years ago.  He loved the area because it had low humidity but you could still grow things.  Too bad we never made it.  Just think, we might have been neighbors!😱😂

We noticed that it's a particularly fruity year here, too.  One of the parks where we take WGD is full of fruit trees that we had never noticed before.  We noticed them this year because the branches are practically touching the ground.  All sorts of fruit trees!  What a good idea to have fruit trees on public property.  You'd think people would take advantage and help themselves to the fruit, but even fruit on the trees in people's yards just drops to the ground and rots in many cases.

Weird.  I swear I didn't know there were so many apple trees in the area.

Apparently there are desert areas that are perfect for growing apples.  The Wilcox Arizona area has some.  I was dumbfounded to find that out.  I could understand the hot houses, but orchards?🤨
