We sometimes get a combination of snow and rain here.
I like to call it snain.

Almost missed my morning work meeting. Couldn't log in. Changed browsers, then realized I didn't have my camera or my tea ready.
Technical difficulties. Such is life.
Now I need to get ready for the drip system guy.
Fingers crossed.

We have an election for state superintendent of schools. With just that one position, turnout will be low. I guess we'll brave the dangerous wind chills and head out later.

You're fortunate! ☺️
Freezing rain is when it comes down as rain but the atmosphere is cold enough that it freezes on contact with anything. Roads, power lines, bushes, tree branches, etc. This is the most dangerous mostly because of the power line problem. If the power lines get loaded down with ice, they snap--especially if it's windy since they can't bend with the wind then. Tree branches get laden with ice and fall on power lines also. Or on roads or houses and cars.
Sleet is when the atmosphere above is cold enough to freeze the rain as it's falling, so it falls as ice. That means it doesn't stick to things above the ground, like the power lines or tree branches. It does cause the roads to build up with ice, which makes driving a mess, just like freezing rain.
So, sleet is marginally a better situation because there is less concern about losing power. However, if you have to get out and about, both are treacherous.
And that's your meteorology lesson for today! 😆

That may explain one reason the state of education is so dismal.
If you go vote, you're one fine citizen. Appreciate it!

Yet another reason we decided against moving to the Kansas City area.
We have "black ice" here that can be treacherous.
The most basic definition of black ice is a thin coat of highly transparent ice. The reason it is transparent is because it blends in with road pavements since it is so thin, making it nearly impossible to see. It's called black ice since it looks black, like the color of the road pavement it forms on.
(Thank you, Weather Channel.)
