I woke up from my nap and realized that what was missing this holiday season was my standard Christmas music.  There are certain songs I need to hear to make sure I know it's Christmas.

Thanks to YouTube, I was able to listen to those I missed this year.

1. Winter Wonderland -- The Eurythmics

2. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas -- Judy Garland

3. Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy -- David Bowie and Bing Crosby

'Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy' by David Bowie and Bing Crosby: The making of the... - Gold

I played that last one twice and ended up crying.

Little Drummer Boy always makes me cry.  A lot of Christmas carols and hymns in general do.  Especially now.  Which is why I rarely play music anymore.

The Alphabet Song makes me cry now.  I'm pitiful.😭

I get what you're saying.  Christmas music is suddenly sad.

But watching Bowie and Bing and remembering that I saw that Christmas special when it aired in 1977... and that I followed both their careers... and remembered what it felt like when they passed away.

I was in college and dreamed that Crosby had died.  Mentioned it to a roommate who said that yes, he had died.

And now I think about David Bowie and it seems odd that he's been gone -- what, seven years now?

Both had complicated lives but were so talented and made such an impact while they were here.  I doubt that either one knew that duet would leave a mark.

I go through this at the end of every year when they do those horrendous look back memories of who has passed during the year.  Half of them I never realized had died, and some I thought had gone years before.

And then there are those that have made an impression and it just hurts once more to hear they're gone.  I finally am realizing why old people live in the past.

I guess it's why I watch so many reruns.🤷‍♀️

You're not alone.  You read these threads and everyone seems to be watching them.

Which begs the question...

Who exactly thinks things are going great out there?
