Re: The Bee Hive -- December 2021 Edition

Hey all, great photos as usual ....
I have always bought a new paper calender each year.

Update on house....May be two weeks early🙂 Picked silver ash grey for downstairs. Will look good with the dark wood floors! Colors are tricky for me🤨
I am getting anxious in a good way....

DH went back to work today.Were both doing better. Hope you are all staying safe.......

I am not keeping up with viva923 at all. I have been getting sluggy lately. I think I need my OCD back.🙃 I have always been a counter. It helps me clean fast when I want something done.It really does motivate me. Strange, it sounds wierd but it does work for me. 🤔 Maybe if I was cured my house would never be clean.
I think I will keep that problem.🙂

Well heck, it's Christmas Time and I promised my son I wouldn't be a scrooge this year. I love George C Scott in scrooge. Does anybody else have a favorite?

Bee back in a bit... going to CC to see what's up...

I'm channeling my inner @viva923 today.

I washed throw rugs and the old towels I use to dry the dog and car.  I hung those outside since it's such a beautiful warm and sunny day.  I don't have a clothes line anymore, but I put them over the dog pen fence and that works great.

I also washed my bath rugs, but those are going in the dryer since I like them nice and soft.  I think they get stiff when dried outside.

And I vacuumed and mopped the floor too.

I'm pooped.🥵  I don't know how Viva does this every day!🥱

@geezerette

I've got to tackle this floor.  We still haven't found the best way to clean a non-carpeted house.  Swiffer worked in the rental, but our vinyl flooring has a slight texture.

@just bee  Just 2 words.....Room BAH!

@Lucky Charm

I was considering it just to keep up on all the dog hair.  But then I saw all the stories about them bursting into flames.

Still a little sensitive about combustion.

@just bee I never heard about them bursting into flames!  But I'm always here when the things are running.  I have one on each floor.

I can see your point as you've experienced the house fire.  Totally understand.  (I'm afraid of the clothes dryer and hang all my wash outside.  I only use a dryer about a dozen times a year!)

When I had a linoleum kitchen floor, I washed it with soapy hot water after I vacuumed w/o the roller bar going.  Always came up nice.

A friend got a Roomba as a gift.  She didn't mind it at first, but as it aged it started to get goofy.  Plus, the dust cup storage was so small it filled up with dog hair after doing half a room.  I guess the more expensive ones are better.

I discounted a Roomba when I read what happened when one ran over the spot where a cat had an accident outside its litter box.🤢

@geezerette

I saw one of those online slideshows: Dog Breeds That Senior Citizens Should Avoid At All Costs!

The Rottweiler was one.  But they were all breeds I like!  Even Greyhounds were on the list.

Disqualifiers were things like size, energy level and ability to shed whole dogs in a day.  I guess Greyhounds are prolific shedders.

@just bee

I agree with that one, for sure.  In fact, it's a breed that most people should avoid.  Period.  But it's amazing how many people would like one.  Or say they would.

But I can't believe a Greyhound would shed more than my monster.  Geez, Greyhounds hardly have any fur to begin with.

Speaking of shedding, has WGD been shedding more than usual this winter?  Carla and the cats have.  They stopped as usual when the weather started to cool, then they all began shedding like it's summer again.  The long-haired cat has hairballs again, which he doesn't have during a normal cold winter.  I bathed Carla and brushed her and still couldn't get all the loose hair off.  My friend said her dogs are back to shedding a lot too.  We just assumed it was our warmer than normal weather.

Good news that the house is coming along.  Something nice to look forward to.

Better news that everyone is feeling better!👍

As for Scrooge, I guess my favorites are a couple of the early ones:  Reginald Owen and Alastair Sim.  Those two are so ingrained in my history that I never even wanted to watch any updated versions after those.  Some things are sacred.

But then it's all a generational thing.

@just bee   So sorry you lost those "memories" in the fire. That's awful. I journal every day and have since maybe high school. Have hundreds of journals in the attic, but important ones like the year we were married, years when kids were born, etc. are in fire file...just in case.

I stole this from another thread, but it's so appropriate for many of us here, myself included...

May be an image of one or more people and text that says 'I need to find a hobby that doesn't include eating or buying things. BELLYFULL'

When I had my own cubicle or office, I always had a Wegman calendar.

William Wegman. Un artista muy perro

I think you'll like the gray.  Is it cool or warm?

We chose Sherwin Williams' Agreeable Gray.  It's warm and more of a "greige."

Here it is with darker floors (not ours):

Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray: Color of the Day

We have gray walls and gray floors.  I tried to bring in different woods and cream to warm things up.  Ivory cabinets, vanilla leather sofa.

I am currently in slug mode.  I have an opportunity to get involved in an organization and I'm hesitating because I'm so sluggy right now.

The good thing about A Christmas Carol is that it's such a great story that it's hard to screw it up.  I was raised on the Alastair Sim version, but came to adore the George C. Scott version.  With that fetching Edward Woodward.

'A Christmas Carol': 7 Versions to Stream on Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney+, and More

But I also like the Patrick Stewart version.

I like George C. Scott.  Really fond of his performance in Jane Eyre.
