I wouldn't mind being called my love, honey, miss, ma'am, doll, sweetie, or similar.  I just don't like it when a grown man calls me "kiddo", and I'm older then he is.

I don't want to embarrass him or make it a big deal, so I just overlook it.  Everyone has their quirks, and I chalk it up to how they were raised and that it didn't mean any harm.

@CAcableGirl2   I'm bothered by doll, sweetie, etc. I think it's too familiar and demeaning...

I have not ever minded if someone calls me honey, babe, dear, sweetie, etc. Doesnt bother me one bit. Woman Happy

The cashier at my local Aldi grocery store is British. She refers to every customer as "My Love" in the most sincere uplifting tone. It sounds wonderful and I never tire of hearing it.

@newagain888888 She did seem to have some sort of accent, alhough I couldn't place it.

It doesn't bother me at all.  I don't think it's meant to be demeaning , I think as someone stated it's mostly due to your upbringing.  I find myself calling people younger than me "Hon" at times.   I mean it with a kindness.

Whenever these OPs come up, I am reminded of Jerry Lewis and his HEY LADY!! routine.

Would much prefer a sweeter name.

just a warning if you are in the general baltimore area.....calling people HON is a thing here and it is NOT meant in a bad way at all. we even have a HONFEST every year!
