This trait runs in his family, hit my husband right after we met mid twenties. He had brown ahir, then like overnight it turned white just like his Dad & his Mom. He and I would joke about him meeting me, hooking up and then it was me who made him turn snow white at such an early age.

I must also note, your #3 smiling prettily to be able to move over into the other lane, if those male drivers out there don't 'let' you, you can always just flip them off and not feel bad about it!!!!!!!!!!!!

@PINKdogWOOD   Actually I've found the male drivers much more polite drivers...even when I had dark hair. I've sat through 2 green lights waiting for some women to let me change lanes. A generalization, I know.

@PINKdogWOOD   All the women on Mom's side were white-haired in their 30's. Of course, I was, too...all silver/white. After coloring it dark to med. brown for almost 40 yrs., enough was enough.

Re: THE DOWNSIDE/UPSIDE OF GREY HAIR

@DREAMON

I totally understand and agree with what you posted.

I just turned 75 and most people find it hard to believe: just yesterday my doctor’s office office manager and I were chatting.  I replied to a comment she made that at 75 you get used to new “ indignities “ of aging every morning and laughed.  She did a double take and thought I was closer to her age, 60.

I have a pure white curly streak in the front of my hair that goes across the front ( I have posted a picture of this earlier ) but the rest of the short hair is very dark.  Not only do I feel young with it, but rarely a day goes by that someone has to tell me how much they love it.

At a McDonald’s this week, a young cashier said that if you’re 75, you are hot......told her no, I was way over the hot flashes thank you!    Wasn’t sure she knew what they were, lol !

I have tried white wigs on to see what the look would be like....couldn’t take them off quick enough !!!

Wonder if I’ll have that streak at the Pearly Gates ??? !!! ???

Re: THE DOWNSIDE/UPSIDE OF GREY HAIR

For me there is no downside having gray hair.  Most people are polite and helpful.  After a lifetime of being polite and helpful to older folks and all others, I deserve and like it.  IMO they dont consider us feeble and helpless its a sign of good up raising.

Re: THE DOWNSIDE/UPSIDE OF GREY HAIR

I let my hair go grey a couple years or so ago (time flies) 😃.

Upside:

  • people hold doors open for me now
  • i don’t have to ask for the senior discount (I guess if you have grey hair they assume you are a senior?)
  • I’ve had more compliments on my hair than ever before

No downsides for me yet!

Re: THE DOWNSIDE/UPSIDE OF GREY HAIR

The verdict is still out on whether I'll go gray or not.  My bff I 74 and she's been gray since her early 60's but no one has ever looked at her and thought "old lady".  I think it's because she's tall and model thin and elegant and always impeccably dressed.  Even now.  She has silver hair but she always had a cool, young, modern haircut and I think that helped a lot.  Actually, I have read that if we are going to go gray or silver; having a modern haircut avoids the "old lady" syndrome.  My hair is very dark, almost black and I'm at the point where I can't keep up with it.  I have great hair, I don't want to damage it so I don't want to color it too often.  I do it myself every 4 weeks so by week 3, there are silver threads at my temples.  I look at women with thick lush silver hair, like Diane Gilman and that is what I want.  However, getting from where I am probably the 50/50 stage is a process and I don't want to look like Cruella Deville.  I also don't want to let the gray come in and then have the black cut off.

I stopped coloring a few years ago and get many compliments on my platinum white hair. I wear it on a short sassy style. I can lift cases of water but always accept the help.

@Shanus.  One biggie:  There was the toddler riding in her mom's grocery basket who pointed at me and screamed, "GRANDMA!"  Her mom was flustered and embarassed and said, "We love grandmas in our family".  Nice recovery.

I really didn't mind.

Re: THE DOWNSIDE/UPSIDE OF GREY HAIR

Can't speak to the gray since I wear a brown/streaked blond highlights wig, but since I use a cane people make way for me, offer seat on bus, hold door more often. In NYC that is a huge adventure. Someone I'm

looked at with pity------ don't like that at all.

I should add I look a lot younger than my age of almost

68----- maybe 10 years or so, and put together (wig, clothes, jewelry), so the cane comes as a surprise for

many.

@chrystaltree   Hi. Didn't want to go through details how I went from brunette to my natural silver in one day at salon. If you haven't read it here, let me know if interested and I'll try to make it as short as possible.
