Re: Sweet Story - Passing it Along

Very interesting,

Did you notice the Prayer Shaw.  The family's faith has taken them a mighty long way.

Re: Sweet Story - Passing it Along

Thank you so very much for sharing this story and wonderful pictures. I can't remember when I've read such an amazing story. How beautiful she is and how I envy her lovely, simple, faithful life. To be at peace like that, every waking minute of everyday....I would say she is the luckiest woman in the world.

It it would be so nice to her story recorded for future generations to see and know that life is best when it's enjoyed simply....without anything but love of God, nature and truly loving ones self.

Loved this....truly amazing.

Simply amazing!  Thank you so much for sharing with us. It reminds me of my grandma.  She did eventually get running water, and she did have electric lights, but was similar in so many ways. I sure miss her canned tomatoes and black raspberry pies!

Re: Sweet Story - Passing it Along

There are a great many people in our country who still live in much this same way. The old order Amish around me live this way, and so do many people in the middle of the country. The woman in this story is wearing a dress that very much resembles the style the Amish in this area wear.

Some people who choose this lifestyle are older and remember when life was more this way, others are looking to challenge themselves to be independent and self sufficient.

When I see people who do this, I realize just how much we have today to make our lives easier, but how much of it is really not necessary.

Thanks for sharing this.

Re: Sweet Story - Passing it Along

This is the best story I have ever read. The pictures are amazing. Thank you. Thank you. The lady is simply happy in her world. She is a blessing to this world. We could all do with a little less. Honestly I could never live like this but it is nice to know that someone can. My grandparents lived like this. They were farmers and lived in a big old house. My father was the oldest of thirteen children. When he was eight years old my grandfather went to his school and said he was needed on the farm. That was the end of his education. There are many Farm Stories.

Re: Sweet Story - Passing it Along

Thank you for sharing -I bet she has had the most wonderful, interesting life.  When I was a young child, our neighbors were in their late 70s to around 80s.  They had a wood burning stove, a pump for water, a feather bed, an old iron freestanding tub.  Her name was Bessie, her husband's name was Claude.  She wore long dresses and a bonnet, Claude wore suspenders and always a straw hat.  She had really long hair and said she washed it once a year - she used salt on her scalp and said it kept her hair clean.  Claude chewed tobacco and would sit on the porch swing with us and as we rocked forward he would use his spitoon.  They had a turkey that would dance around Claude's hat when he started clapping his hands and singing.  It was like living in another world - they took care of me and my sisters when my father fell ill and my mother had to take my father out of state for treatment.  I will always remember their sweet spirit.  I wish I had been old enough to question them about their lives while they were still around.  They have so much to teach us.

If you want to know more about this family do a search for Joe Isaacs. He is Edna's  (the lady in the story) brother and a bluegrass singer.
