I think once people get into right-fighting and bringing up irrelevant arguements, ridicule and personel insults, the thread has nowhere to go but into the ether....poof.

Sometimes i am shocked at how some of us sees things,we are so different in our thoughts and actions.

What's the difference?
It's not strange to me at all.
I've got friends who manage private forums like this and I wish you could talk to them and understand even a tenth of how difficult it is to manage these kinds of topics and situations.
You'd never ask a question like this again.

Looking at things differently is normal, we all come from a different background. It is when people are "shocked" and choose to admonish other posters (either directly or passive agressively) because they do not see things the same is when discussions turn ugly.

I have yet to be persuded to change my mind or core values by any comment left on a message board, and I am highly confident no else has either. So what is the point of arguing? I believe that social media has brought out the worst and Twitter is the nothing but a gutter that should have never seen the light of day.
@granny me, Actually, I have changed my mind after reading discussions here. I don't think anyone expects to alter core values, but my thinking about some issues has been broadened and my opinion changed in a few cases. I've also come to appreciate the myriad of ways a single issue can be approached... posting here has taught me to be the proverbial "devil's advocate" trying to see things through others' eyes in my pondering of topics in a way I didn't before. That's why I appreciate hearing all perspectives, when offered in a civil manner, and I'd never have an interest in posting on forums that are heavily biased one way or another. If we stay in the midst of people who agree with each other, we never end up learning new things and I like to keep learning (this relates to my siggy, I suppose). Regarding Twitter, it's like the other technological tools we've been provided... it is what we make of it.

It's really 'our call'..........If we could only keep the peace and have discussions without arguing on these boards, they probably wouldn't be 'poofed'/removed. It's just a matter of being polite. Just pretend that we are at a neighbor's dinner or small event, maybe a child's birthday party. Be polite, have a few viewpoints here and there, and just say 'Well, let's hope for the best'. Sometimes it's just better in the long run to get along; be civil.

I don't know if this will be considered off topic or poofed, but I don't understand why posters continue to test the Mods on a daily basis with their religious posts, knowing it is off limits. Personally, I do not celebrate religious holidays and do not appreciate people trying to push it on me. For those who observe, fine. Be happy, go for it, just don't force it on me.
I recently experienced more than one incident where I had people ringing my doorbell and pounding on the door yelling about G*D. They frightened my DH, who is ill, and my cats. I almost called the police on them for disturbing the peace.
Embrace your religion people, just don't try to force it on others. Thank you.

@catwhisperer, I agree with you, and as a person of faith I feel that we need to be more respectful of the standards and guidelines, as well as of other posters.
The policies were changed almost 7 months ago, yet we keep trying to make this forum something it's not intended to be... much like trying to jam that square peg into a round hole. Even if we manage to force it to go in, we might destroy it all in the process. As I posted on another thread*, I fear that the repeated complaints about the standards and the constant attempts to "sneak" past the guidelines might cause the powers-that-be to decide the problems here outweigh the benefits -- they might close the Community completely. Many other websites have removed their forums, and this could be the next one. I know not everyone will agree, but this is how I feel.

@dooBdoo....hello sweet lady. I totally agree with you 100%. You know I have total respect for you and think you are one of the most valued and intelligent posters on these boards. I have been trying to stay away from here, but when I see something that gets my attention, I just have to speak, whether it gets poofed or not.![]()
