Sounds reasonable but its so easy for me to throw a good steak on the grill I rarely go out to eat.  For a special occasion it is nice and romantic to have a night out and that sounds reasonable if the food and service were good.

I think it depends on the steak. It depends on the restaurant.  It's not like all steaks are the same and cost the same.  I don't eat red meat, I don't think I ever ate steak.  But Hubby does.  I don't recall what cut hubhy prefers but it's around $80 in the restaurant we go to for very special occasions.

@kaydee50   Thanks for informing me that meat/fish are very expensive meals.  Happy to report that we don't eat either so I would not have been aware of that if you hadn't shared. 😏

That's about what our locally owned restaurants here are charging in coastal SC. With the jup in beef prices, guess it's to be expected but I would expect a very good steak. Recently we went out of town and two members of my party got the $45 steak and both said it was horribly tough and no taste. That would make me angry. I rarely buy steak in a restaurant unless I know for sure it's going to be good, no matter the cost.

I dont think the price is high considering a hamburger is anywhere from $15 and up.

Dont forget out of that $40's they have to pay for it, pay someone to cook it, serve it and add the cost of sides if it comes with it.  To say nothing about what it costs to keep the building and business open.

Have you looked at the price of steaks at the grocery lately?   They alone can cost $40 to $50.

I don't think it's too high.  It sounds reasonable.  Steak is not the same as other steaks.  Depends on the cut. If you have fillet and wine, that will cost you more then a T bone. In addition to the cut, a fillet is priced over the weight. A steak dinner is usually the most expensive on the menu.

If we saw those prices in DC we would be ecstatic! A steak dinner is usually at least $55-$65. Mastro's runs $60-$95.

Actually, doesn't look bad to me if it was a decent meal.  Can't find a decent steak in our area so for my birthday I went to the grocery store and picked up a couple of rib eyes  two lobster tails and a crusty baguette (my craving) always have salad fixings... Total cost $36.  It has come to the point a quick lunch out is now over $30.  Just prefer staying home.

@Puzzle Piece Don't know if you are out of touch, however we have stopped going out to eat. I am a vegetarian so I would never eat a steak and we have not eaten out since the Pandemic. Hubbs feels food handling is a concern.

There is a popular steak house near me that is very expensive.  We like the ambiance though and have gone occasionally. We usually don't go with their expensive steaks.  One can buy a burger which is excellent or what I have done is get a crabcake appetizer as my entree.

When I'm in the mood for a good steak I will buy one which is still expensive and grill it myself.

We're supposed to be getting a Capital Grille soon in my local shopping center.  That's also an expensive steak house.
