@sidsmom there was very little reported incidents of people being asked to leave Starbucks if they didn’t make a purchase or being denied the bathroom...that got addressed though.I think that this should be too.

@dex

Not sure why my opinion is continually being singled out.

🤷‍♀️

Like I said upthread,

there are good arguments for both sides.

Ok sorry..I just feel strongly about this...like you do about food choices.

The guy that heads that business, for me, is too far out there on his anti-police actions. They never had me as a customer so I can't stop going.

This whole anti-police kinda movement is short sighted and down right ridiculous. Seems to me the word "discrimination" fits these types of actions, no?

Not wise to make generalizations about anyone. If a person does not believe others have good intent and good faith behind their words, and if a person is not curious about what others have to say and why, there is no purpose in trying to have a discussion.

@Porcelain ,

Not sure what specifically I said is a generalization. Don't remember the head of Starbucks name, but I have seen him give his views on things with which I strongly disagree.

I kinda like hearing what others have to say, and enjoy immensely  having a conversation and/or discussion with them. That of course is when it is not mandatory I agree with them, in which I have had a few.

When I say "anti-police movements" I am talking specifically to those that protest(in general) Police Officers and Departments. There are several specific groups I could name, but my post, or this thread, may be deleted or closed.

Like our Armed Forces, Police Officers specific job is to "protect", and in my opinion a very large percentage do exactly what they are trained to do.

With all due respect and color me stupid, but I don't understand your response above to @hckynut at all.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't 'get' your point, no offense intended whatsoever.

Don't assume that people you don't know are anti-police. That's a generalization.

Respect for police is a very touchy topic for many, and nuance can be looked upon as something horrible. I personally feel that way (seeing nuanced ideas as having bad faith behind them) about a few completely different topics. So I can relate to having little tolerance for questioning or dissent against a position I hold sincerely, and labeling those who have different views with a label they probably don't deserve. i.e. anti police.

I am sorry if you don't undestand this response. Sometimes it's hard to communicate with people who have different or opposite ways of seeing the world. In the interests of not engaging in an argument, I'm not going to go back and forth trying to convince you of anything in particular. Heart

@Porcelain

Perhaps you didn't understand my post, but I genuinely was not disagreeing with you of dissenting against your opinion.

I truly wasn't sure what you were trying to convey, that's why I asked.

I was not intending to go back and forth with you, nor start an argument, now that I understand what you meant, I happen to agree with you, so you don't have to convince me of anything.

Sorry if you misunderstood my post.

@hckynut, all organizations have some bad apples. Some police departments would be the first to admit that they grapple with some issues.

In Los Angeles, we have had a ongoing situation in some parts of the county is which departments have now to deal with "gangs" within.

Nothing is simple these days. But I think we're getting away from the Starbuck's incident in question. Until I read more than that the officers felt that they had to wait too long, I'll reserve my opinion about this story.

Yes, @dex, although I reserve judgment regarding the latest one.

So if there are three incidents in which police acted with bias or undo violence, should we boycott all police departments?

@suzyQ3 @No we need police more than we need coffee.The police have made many a mistake but their job is one with many risks and dangers.There is no need for disrespectful treatment of officers who are not making mistakes but just buying a coffee.

@dex, I appreciate your POV, but this response isn't very logical. No group of people should be branded due to the few bad apples. I also think that there should always be effective responses to their actions.

Starbucks and police departments both have to continue working on it.

I am a "no  more Starbucks customer," after having been shamed as being a "older white customer."

This occurred about one year ago in Vancouver, WA, at a busy Starbucks.  I was meeting up with someone I had met on a fiber arts Facebook Group for the first time.  Walked in and went directly to the counter.  There were two youngish very young adult females behind the register, one white, one African American.  I ordered my usual Grande Latte.  They both looked at me with absolutely dead faces.  Sad nothing.  Not even the price or please insert your card, you know the drill.  It was quite strange, to say the least.  Then I proceed to the other end to pick up my drink, which turned out to be hot milk - no coffee in it.  I turn to the barista and ask, " OK, what are you guys pulling today?  I saw the look on the faces of those 2 at the register.  Now, are you going to get on it and do my drink right or do I get on the phone to the Director of Operations for Starbucks Western States and Hawaii, because I have met him, he knows me and I have his business card on me.  So what is it going to be?   (True statement.)

Believe me, I was not whispering at this point.

I'm incredibly sick and tired of all of the ______  ____   various employees here in the U.S. are perpetrating on the customers they are employed to serve!

Enough already!
