Re: Spring has Sprung at the Back Fence - May 2018

I agree, Birdmsma. It's too darn hot. We set a record for a Memorial Day of 97 degrees.  We were also under ozone alert and people with allergies and just old were urged to stay indoors.  Also lawn mowing was discouraged.  I heard a mower running and looked out and our young neighbor was mowing our yard   I don't know if he thought merle would get out there when he shouldn't or if he thought  it needed mowing.  It's really too short now but we are supposed to get rain today or tomorrow.  I do appreciate him but feel a bit strange about it.

Today is our 63rd wedding anniversary.  I can't believe it.   Merle is out of town tonight so we decided to live it up big on Monday.  We went to Cracker Barrell. Lol.  In honor of memrial day I opted for a cheeseburger and corn on the cob. In honor of our anniversary I ordered a hot fudge sundae in a mug without whipped cream but with cherry and almonds. I did share my sundae with Merle. He had meatloaf. Do we know how to live if up or not?

Freddie one good thing about the birds is that there is lots of food around this time of year.  Many of our neighbors have feeders but the birds have been feeding off the ornamental trees in the yard.  I do try to keep water in the bird bath and that's pretty popular.

Betty @yock  Congratulations on your wedding anniversary.  I think your dinner was lovely and it sounds like the way I would celebrate.

Re: Spring has Sprung at the Back Fence - May 2018

Hey Betty - congratulations on your anniversary. I think you two had a great dinner - everything just perfect and your years of marriage - congratulations for sure. That Merle just stays busier than heck doesn't he?

I think my oldest Grand will have a long marriage. Have seen what they have been through and how it was handled and I just feel they both have some brains. The strongest test however was when my great grandson - their son - decided he WOULD go into the Marines like his Dad and he had been on meds since a little guy due to very severe ADHD. This day and time you cannot go into the service if on any medication - times changed. He got himself off and I guess it was a brutal two years with his adjustment without it. He DID IT however and served his time and went to Iraq. His parents took a short break from each other and I was a bit worried but kept my mouth shut and just sat back. That was the perfect thing for them to do and now they are super content and trying to help raise a granddaughter , their daughter's . They take the time to try and have dinner out with just themselves at least once a week - that is good.  So many couples in recent years just take a walk and keep walking with little effort to try and make things work. Easier to get a divorce in some ways of thinking.

Got the feeders filled and they were very busy out there. I cannot keep my water out for the birds due to two little Imps that live here. Then during the drought we were not allowed to put water out in the fountain.  Always something.

Have a great day everyone.

Re: Spring has Sprung at the Back Fence - May 2018

I drove to work yesterday to attend a retirement gathering in a conference room for one of my former co-workers.  He's a sports fan so the conference room was decked out in Tigers colors (blue and orange balloons) and there were hot dogs with all the toppings you could think of, Better Made potato chips and assorted Faygo (the latter two made in Detroit). It was good to see everyone and catch up - felt like I never left Woman Very Happy
