I just received an email that says they are increasing their price.  They say yada yada yada about how wonderful their services are and what we should be thankful for, but the bottom line is we have to pay more for it.  This after they take away Norton.

I didn't get an email about a price increase, but what does have me curious is this.  My rate usually change in October, but so far no change.  While on the the surface it seems like good news, what is really going on???  I'm anxiously awaiting my next bill.

I finally decided last night to stay with Norton; $14.99 for the first year, then $104 (approx) a year.  I've had the Norton through Comcast for many years and have been very happy with it, so, for peace of mind, kept it.

@Caligurll

I received the same email. Ask CS do you have to pay? If you have an X1 gateway, the company may give you free Norton 360 with service.

@Nuttmeg  Thanks for the info, but I already signed up with Norton for the $14.99 for the first year.  It looks different from the Comcast version, and this one comes with ad blocker which my free one didn't.

I checked my Comcast account yesterday to see if my next bill had posted yet (it hadn't), but there was a $10.85 credit to my account with no explanation for it. 🤷‍♀️

I tried that negotiation thing last time and they told me to not let the door hit me on the way out.

@Scooby Doo This is how you negotiate.  I do this every year with ATT Uverse.

Do a quick search to see what competitors pricing is?

Call Comcast and ask if they have any available promotions which you qualify for?

If they say no ask to speak to a Customer Retention specialist because you found a cheaper rate elsewhere (say this regardless if you want to go to the other service or not).

Just like magic the Customer Retention specialist will find you a deal.

This works every time.  Its a pain but it saves me from the yearly price increases.

Re: Speaking of Comcast........

These cable and satellite companies are doing the exact opposite they need to do to retain and grow their customer base.  Withdraw channels and services, increase prices, negate any form of good customer service you might have had.  Then wonder why everyone is going to these subscription services.

Re: Speaking of Comcast........

I just got one of my Comcast bills and it has a $20+ credit because of sporting events and the pandemic.  Can't think of the exact wording.  But what a nice surprise.

And this was the account that they said I would be losing a $50 introductory/promotional credit effective this bill.  That didn't happen, either.  Yay.

When I couldn't negotiate a lower rate with their customer service, I went to their store. I was able to get a better rate in person. If my rate goes up again, I will do the same.

That is actually a good idea.  We've had cable and internet with comcast for 20 years or so but cell with AT&T.  I went into our local xfinity store to get a new iPhone and switch our cell service to them.  In the process he said that he could give us faster speed for less money than our current plan.  He explained that they change their plans and they had recently done that.  I may have gotten the same had I called but I was happy that he made the change.  The savings there balanced out the increase for our Hulu+live TV.

Re: Speaking of Comcast........

We signed a 2 year contract with Comcast at a decent price. If we cancel, $200 penalty on a sliding scale depending on when we cancel.

They raised my rate. I called and asked what's the purpose of a contract price if you can raise my rates?  The answer was basically - too bad so sad for you. Cancel and we charge you $$.
