I understand the comparison, although that's not what it was really meant as. The point was: wrong is wrong. If you know something is happening (big or small, life-altering or otherwise) and you do nothing about it, you are part of the problem. I would call and say something vague like "this may be nothing at all, but if I can report this anonymously, I would like to let you know that there MAY be a problem with the billing/usage at 999 Elm Street. Feel free to have it checked out."

@SurferWife wrote:@KingstonsMom...stealing cable and chile abuse is a real STUPID comparison. Yes, both criminal activity, but theft and child abuse are far different. Come on!
PLEASE read my post #25!
I was NOT comparing the two crimes, my response was to the comment WHICH I QUOTED!, that said "It's not your business to police your neighbors".
Geeze, I wish people would actually READ the threads/post before commenting that something is "stupid".

my tolerance stops at liars and thieves. i cannot ignore some things.
i would hope that if someone saw someone stealing from me they would report.
it does not take a math wiz to understand that stealing from a business or company is stealing from all their customers.

I would report anonymously. It is theft, and is the business of everyone that pays for the service, as it effects your costs.
I believe in see something say something. Shop lifting, corporate theft, illegal activity whatever.
You don't have to stand out, do it quietly and no one ever knows who is reporting. But stopping things that are illegal doesn't happen without good people standing up and reporting it.

So why doesn't the neighbor report it? How are you so sure this is happening?

i was wondering the same thing? why not let the neighbor know that you think someone is tapping into his cable? maybe he is allowing it?
http://cabletheft.com/ is a way to anonymously report online.

I wouldn't say anything.
To me, that's up to the neighbor to report.

I would report it but, I'd do it anonymously. Our local police dept. has a number where crimes can be reported without anyone knowing who's doing the reporting. Perhaps the cable company has the same sort of thing because theiy're aware of the fact that no one wants to be ratting out a neighbor.

I don’t think it’s so much ratting out a neighbor that is worrisome, but being afraid the neighbor will find out that it was you, and the retaliation that might follow.

I would mind my own business!
