Re: Signing Up for Medicare

[ Edited ]

@software  A close friend of our's thought he'd do the same.  When he spoke with a rep at the office he went to, they politely told him to sit down at one of their computers and sign up on line.  He chuckled and went home to do it.

@Pook  No he isn't, he's still working and will be for a few more years.

It probably depends on the location.    This is a small town.    I haven't heard of anyone being asked to do that & I've had several friends & relatives sign up at the office.   And I do know one of the employees personally.    I've helped some of my relatives.  I've sat in that office!!    The employees are very accommodating.

One thing about signing up online at the office is if you run into problems, someone there might help you.    Not every senior is computer savvy.   Particularly around here.

Some of you are making this way harder than you have to, I have been on Medicare for 2 yrs. now, automatically was signed up because of SS and have never had any problems!  It is not complicated, LOL!

Every single enrollee's situation is not the same and it isn't "simple" for all.  LOL!

Absolutely true!  My situation is extremely complicated, and even after hours spent both on the phone and in person with Medicare and Social Security, it's still not sorted out.  The incorrect, incomplete, and conflicting information I've received has been staggering.  So yes, everyone's situation most certainly is not the same.

In the middle stage of my applying, I received conflicting, incorrect information from a SS employee that wasted a lot of my time and caused me a fair amount of stress until I discovered it was wrong. They are not all correct all the time. It happens. And not everyone lives in a sleepy small cozy town where the SS employees may be your neighbors and you can just drop in to get things taken care of in 10-15 minutes. Doesn't work that way in a city with a population of millions, for sure.
