As I often do, I returned to this thread to see additional greetings and guess what I hear in the background? "Sunrise, Sunset." That song says so much in its few, spare words. Powerful. It never fails to move me.
TCM is airing Fiddler on the Roof.
[Adding this: They just sang "Anatevka," the song about the shtetl (village) from which the community is being expelled. I decided to check if there is/was such a village. YES. Apologies for my ignorance.
Sadly, I learned that Anatevka is in present-day Ukraine (was once Russia), only 20 miles from Kyiv. Doesn't the world ever learn its painful lessons once and for all?]

Thank you @MOMMAVik for starting the thread this week. I'm out of town and just got up to my room.
Wishing you all a Good Shabbos and a beautiful, spring weekend.
Today is my Mom's yahrtzeit, so scooted up to my room to light a candle and say my prayer. Each year, on the anniversary of the dealth of a parent or sibling, the prayer of mourning is said and a candle is lit in remembrance. It's the same prayer that's said at the funeral. Since my younger brother passed away suddenly at 49 without children and his wife was not Jewish, I light a candle for him, too....and my Dad on their day. Most of the time, if possible, it's nice to attend Temple services that night and the congregation stands and says the "mourner's kaddish" with you. Quite comforting. Just a bit of explanation for those who would be interested.
I brought a tiny votive with me instead of the usual juice glass size candle...fire alarms. I may even pray for forgiveness and blow this one out before the sirens come. LOL
A lot of prayers tonight and every night for safety and peace in our world. 😒

Shanus, I use an electric light bulb in a lamp, I just take out the one in there and put in the one for Yahrtxeit, I feel safer with that. One I bought 40 years ago is still working fine. I keep it on for 24 hours .
