Re: September 2020 Back Fence

Lazy day here as I didn't sleep well last night. The hospital called me yesterday to suggest I needed an ultrasound to follow up on something seen during a mammogram. All I need is another cancer diagnosis. I have to go back near the end of the  year to check if my bladder cancer has returned. It was every six months and then yearly. Hoping this is the final checkup. They checked the bladder, ureters and kidneys which requires you to be out while it is done. The arm in which I had the rotator cuff surgery done the last of May of aching last night which also contributed to not sleeping well. I am alive and kicking which is what counts!

Jean @KonaKat  I've been through follow up ultrasounds umpteen times and it never got 'run of the mill' for me.  I'll say a prayer that it turns out to be nothing of concern for you. Heart

Re: September 2020 Back Fence

It's been cooler (60's) and overcast around here.  I'm not complaining one bit because there are so many of my fellow citizens suffering with natural disasters.

I'm getting use to the new cooktop and it has been nice being able to use a teakettle over a fire vs microwaving a cup of water for my daily instant coffee.

My husband wasn't a coffee drinker so it never made sense to me to make a pot of coffee only to get a cup for the road (on the way to work).  It's funny how something becomes a habit.  He's been gone since early 2007 and I never bought a coffee pot.  I've been retired since early 2018 and I still have bought a coffee pot Woman Very Happy

Bernie--It is just me but I drink coffee too much, so I make a 10 cup pot in the morning and then nuke it when it gets cold. I had a Keurig once but it didn't operate well after a few months and it wasn't very cost effective. The microwave and instant coffee was much better but not quite the real thing, so back to the brewing I went.

It came to me this morning that I hadn't cleaned my favorite earrings for a while. So while thinking of it, I doused them in jewelry cleaner  and then scrubbed gently. They now sparkle like new.

Re: September 2020 Back Fence

hey all

Kona, I have been reading more complaints about that Kuerig machine. It may have been good in early years but went down hill in past few years. More articles are coming out about how poor those Kuerig machines aren't as good as they are cracked up to be.

did chores this morn. Did get longer walk in the morn. This afternoon did a full mile but did it in 2 stages. I did longer than this morn walk, saw how foot felt and went back out and walked more. Should be able to hoof a full mile tomorrow.

it has been rainy, humidity is off the charts. Just awful, the air is so heavy with water vapor a knife wouldn't cut it.

anyway, not much else, will check in later

I replaced the window in the front door yesterday.  They suggest that it is a 2 person job and they are not whistling Dixie.  These replacement windows basically include 3 components - the interior frame, the window itself and the exterior frame.  If the exterior frame and window were securely attached to each other then it could easily be a 1 person job.

Of course, I tried to do it myself Woman Very Happy  How hard could it be?

Here's how the window came packed

Here is the old window with those funky exterior muntins.  The tape around the window is to protect the finish when caulk from the old window is loosened.

Here's is the door with the window out, before I went along the edges with a razor to remove all of the remaining caulk.

Getting the old window out and removing any traces of caulk was a piece of cake.  I fought the new window installation for 30 minutes.  What would happen is this - I would get the frame and the window set on the bottom of the opening and the window would tilt.  This caused the window to slide off the supports inside the frame.  Not for nothing, the window was heavy - double panes with blinds between them.

I had been texting my sister about the progress and finally said I can't do it alone.  She got off of work at 2 pm yesterday and happened to be at the Discount Tire less than 2 miles away from me getting the air in her tires checked and topped off.  She came over in about 10 minutes and held the glass and frame on the outside while I fitted the inside frame into the opening and added some scr3ws.

Here's it done (this morning)

I added my wreath
