@Snowhite714 @I had to ask the same question as you did about twelve years ago when I started on the forums. There are so many helpful people here who taught me all I know. I remember one lady always ended her posts with HBIC.It was around Christmas and I thought it meant something like have a beautiful Christmas.I would always say and you have a good Christmas too.LOL

@dex   You were very kind!   You must now know it means Head B itch In Charge!

    yes jack!!

Just remember, @Snowhite714 ,  Google is your friend.

If netiquette (internet etiquette) is also unfamiliar to you, go to Google. Most sites require posters observe good netiquette.

OP does double duty.

Means the original post in the thread or refers to the original poster, depending how it's used in a sentence.

@jackthebear @kitcat51  Thank you for your guidance.  @nana59 Good for you.

You're welcome. I'm 68, have 3 teen grandkids & didn't understand the abbreviations they used...I was too embarrassed to ask them so goggled it.

@kitcat51   It's a pet peeve of mine so I have to call it out, forgive me.  THANK YOU for using the correct contraction for "you are," you're and not your.  How many times have I seen people use 'your' when they mean you're???  And it seems to be the standard now, drives me absolutely crazy.  What has happened to the English language? These days it seems anything goes.  Okay I'm done venting.  Thank you.

I avoid the silly abbreviations. Is it so hard to spell out what you want to say? Besides, “dear husband,” “dear daughter” sound phony and old-fashioned.

It really irritates me when posters use initials of hosts instead of their name.  What's the point?  Do they think they can criticize a host and it's okay if they don't use the name, just initials?  I refuse to beat my brains out trying to figure out who they're talking about.

To add to that list, the other day I saw, "DGS" and figured it out to mean, "Dear Grandson." That opened my world for one second!!! Smiley Happy
